.
Time was ticking away and before we knew it we had less than ten minutes left on the measly hour allotted us to tour Fort Sumter.
.

.
The views from the top of the old battery were the best.
.

.
So I raced around snapping pictures.
.

.

.
.

.
The famed 200 pounder.
.

.

.
Dashing down the stairs as they gave the five minute warning for ferry departure….
.

.
We didn’t have time to do anything but a quick run through.
.

.

.

.
I’m smiling, but I wasn’t happy.
.

.
Too much to see, too little time.
.

.
Didn’t have time to read any of these so I took pictures for later.
.

.
I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I was to be rushed through a historic site I’ve read so much about.
.

.
And as much as I’d like to recommend the trip to other visitors, I can’t.
.

.
We didn’t walk the outside the Fort, or the parapet, or the rocks and the beach. We didn’t check out any of the interior spaces at all.
.

.
I didn’t mind paying the $37 per person ticket price.
.

.
But I did mind spending almost as much time on the boat as we did at the Fort.
.

.
Boo to that.
.
I’ve got the solution: Return in summer (by car so you can bring back a few bottles of that Gunner liquor), take the last ferry out to Fort Sumter carrying backpacks full of food and drink. “Accidentally” miss the ferry back and spend the night. Looking forward to the post!

Now that sounds like a plan!

Somehow I believe the park rangers a like the FBI and would say ‘ the ranger service is not aware we have a sense of humor, over night excursions, and the consumption of alcohol is not permitted. However congratulations are in order. You have just won temporary use of these exclusive bracelets… ’

Well that sucks. Yep that’s all the comment I have for the fact that they only rushed your through in a freaking hour. The fort is marvelous, I’d love to visit someday but after your experience, maybe not. Besides I’m not much for traveling right now, you know carrying that baggage called menopause….lol.

It’s been a few years but I remember we had a tour guide. I guess that doesn’t happen in the off season – so sorry – it’s not that easy a place to get to!

There were two rangers stationed at the fort, and the one who came on the ferry with us… but no tours.

The husband doesn’t look all that thrilled either.

That’s because I wouldn’t let him talk to anyone.

Boo for sure! Too bad you couldn’t stay and wait for the next boat to arrive. I suppose there are liabilities involved though.

There was no next boat. During the winter this was the only trip…
