.
Remember when I found that weirdly wonderful tropical beer at the Great Lost Bear a while back? After numerous fruitless (no pun intended) attempts to locate it for sale… I went to the source.
.

.
Barreled Souls brewing in Saco. They’re a small batch brewery tucked away in the basement of a lawyers office. The days and hours their tasting room is open are limited… so we were standing tall at noon on a Saturday ready for some serious day drinking.
.

.
23 plus on tap made for ample tasting.
.

.
Known for their bizarre fruited sours and gose, we happily sampled.
.

.
And then sampled a bit more.
.

.
This brewery ages its beers in whisky barrels, rum barrels, wine barrels and even tequila barrels which makes for some very distinctive flavors.
.

.
I was thrilled to discover I could order a keg of Little Havana for the man cave/Barn Mahal and the husband went with a 4 pack of Le Tigre.
.

.
At $17 for a four pack it’s not cheap, but what is these days?
.
Finally some good news! I mean what could be better than finding a good brewery and having a taste of some artisan suds? Sounds like you both had a great time.

It’s a building filled with beer. How could we not..?

That used to be the cost of a case

Don’t even go there! 😉 My parents were Old Milwaukee drinkers. $2.99 a case if I remember correctly. Maybe on $1.99 on sale.

I’m intrigued. Some of the fancy ones I’ve tried over here are truly weird, but what puts me off more is the strength. Are these high in alcoholic content?

They vary. Some ABVs are 5.5, some 6, some 8, a few 11’s and I even saw a 15. The one I liked was only 4.9.

That’s not bad. I’m a real lightweight now I’m knocking on a bit. 😉
4.8 to 5.5 would do me just fine and I’d be happy to sample. But 11 – 15% ? Yeuch!
I have a client who always brings me back strong Belgian craft beers of that strength when she goes to the Christmas markets. It’s very kind of her, but sadly they just end up poured down the sink – even my pals are wary of them! 😀

I like Belgians but usually stick in the 5-8% range.

When I was indulging in SmogCity’s release of InfiniteWishes variants, some take-home bottles were $16. I’m an expensive drinker!
I’m not usually into sours but that looks like it was nice!!

Some weren’t sour at all and hardly fit the category. With 23 on tap there was something for everyone.

I’m happy when drinking at the SmogCity near my house cause I remember when there were about 6 beers on the menu. Now it’s easily 30+ and the main brewery has even more!

When it comes to beer I love a variety. Some breweries just have IPAs and I leave dissatisfied.

I’ll drink an IPA (or 10) but bitch about the shitty taste the entire time.

And I’ll drink almost anything else. Just can’t stand that taste…

I don’t like the taste of Mexican beers and, by extension, German beers. I dunno what causes the specific bleh taste but it’s foul to me.

I’m thrilled to know you buy beer by the keg. I am also thrilled to know the provenance of that face stealin’ t-shirt you’re wearing in your eclipse with the whistle pigs post. Ours was no great shakes; Nelson didn’t even show up.

We have a dual tap kegerator in the man cave/Barn Mahal. We each get a side. 😉
As for my fashion choice, the Great Lost Bear has great t shirts, many Grateful Dead themed. That one was Feed Your Face.

Even if the beer were crap, those names are A+!

And each type has original local artwork on their cans. Quirky, but fun.
