Now that I’ve filled the new hutch and dressed the new table, some proper pictures.
The before…
.

.
The after…
.

.
If you’re a wood lover like us, you’d love this table.
.

.
The grain swirls are marvelous.
.

.

.
I have to admit the custom made Amish hutch turned out a lot darker than I hoped.
.

.
And since the new floor is also darker than I thought it would be…
.

.
I believe a bright new rug is in our future.
Did you notice my prominent placement of the family silver?
.

.
This is going to be an utter nightmare to dust and keep polished, so place your bets on how long I can ( or want ) to keep this look.
The before…
.

.
The after…
.

.
Ceiling, beam, floor, baseboard moulding, back door and dining room furniture replaced… and to think it only took 7 months.
🥴
We’re waiting on the living room furniture delivery now. They promised 6-7 weeks but you know how that goes…
.
A rug huh..idk i like the wood look

I do as well, but when the sun isn’t shining in it’s a bit dark…

It looks lovely. As much as I can see where you are coming from with the rug, which I would be debating the same probably if it was me. I know at the same time I be torn thinking, do I need that rug. It’s a hard decision.
I would say see how you go when you have new living room furniture in place and then decide. Just to make sure you don’t invest in a rug to then decide you don’t want it. Which I had done the same thing and realised didn’t want. But luckily, I put my rug to good use elsewhere before getting rid. So I didn’t feel I wasted my money in the end.
Either way, a rug, or no rug, it will look good. I bet you glad that’s all done now downstairs, the major work.

There’s an endless list of projects that need to be done at this house, but at least that room is (almost) finished.

I can remember I think if I am right, you were going to start on something upstairs.
But at least all downstairs is nearly done, so you sit and relax in between it all. 🙂

Our house is one level, with a full basement. It’s long, not tall.

Oh right. I would have been surprised if I remembered correctly. It’s good that it’s all on one level.

I rather miss going up to bed, but my bad knee doesn’t miss running laundry up and down every day so there is that.

I like your new furniture and your new floor. We recently got rid of our dining room rug that was old and hideous, so are now beginning to look for a new one. Not as easy as it sounds, might just keep the wood floor bare.

Thanks. I’ll probably wait until the living room furniture is delivered to go rug shopping. No sense clashing if I can help it.

That floor has very neat designs. We need rugs, too; and curtains. It echoes so much!

Curtains. That’s another thing on my list….

I think a rug would soften the dining area, even though the wood is beautiful.

I don’t mind it during the day, but it is pretty dark at night.

It looks so lovely; what a nice update! I love a soft rug in each room that has hard floors as I feel it softens everything up.

My problem is… since it’s all one big open space, do I put the rug under the table or in the living room area?

I would generally prefer the living space, but if that has a traffic pattern through it, I’d do the dining room where you can contain the rug size to the center of the table.

That makes sense…

I love the updated look and I think it all goes very well with the floor. A rug? I have to admit, I’ve never understood the appeal of a rug under the place of eating. It definitely looks nice, but after every meal I’d be trying to get out ketchup stains, spilled wine, mystery marks, embedded side-dish, encrusted cake crumbs… It’s not that we’re super-slobs, it’s just that, I dunno, a carpet would be a mega-mess-magnet for me.

We have a rug under our kitchen table and aside from vacuuming a few crumbs it’s never been an issue. Guess we’re less messy than you…

Hmmm… maybe we are slobs. 🤔

I love the brightness now. Be careful with the Silver. You have a cat now and it may not stay as organized.
