.
After another week of unsatisfactory carpet shopping I had to throw the husband a bone so we headed for the coast.
.

.
Wells is probably the longest stretch of sandy beach in Maine and is overwhelmed with tourists in the summer.
.

.
But on the off season it’s quiet, which is how we like it.
After a stroll, we headed for beer.
.

.
And while we’ve visited other Batson locations, this was our first trip to the laid back Fish Camp version.
.

.
It was more casual than their other locations.
.

.
With an attractive fishing vibe.
.

.
A few raspberry lime sours in…
.

.
I opted for the duck fat cornbread with maple honey bourbon butter.
.

.
Ooh la la! Sheer perfection.
.

.
As was the digital fireplace that didn’t trigger my hot flashes.
.

.
Not sure what they put on top of this outdoor table to hold down the cover…but it looked like a giant wine cork to me.
😉
.
Not sure why maple, bourbon, and butter go so well together, but they do. Maple syrup aged in bourbon barrels is a tasty treat. A favorite winter pie has a bourbon custard sauce (bourbon, sugar, egg, cream) poured over it.

Yep… that looks like a “chainsaw art” cork!!
An imaging center that I went to had a loooong digital fireplace and I really wanted one. For now, I’m over it… I went with cheap VR.

We have a fireplace, but I’m always too hot to want a fire.

I don’t have a fireplace, it’s usually too hot here, plus us we’re often under “no burn” orders.
I considered a chimnea for outdoor use but my backyard design makes the sole open spot into a high wind zone. The sole time I used a little charcoal grill, I was terrified that my house was gonna burn down!

Yeah. No fire for you…

It does look like a giant cork. I’d like to find the giant bottle of wine it came from 😜

I am intrigued by the cornbread. I haven’t made any experimental corn pone in some time and now I’m really thinking. I wonder where I can get some duck fat.

It was simple but amazing. Crunchy on the outside, creamy inside.

They have 4 different sites and every one has a distinctly different decor and vibe.
Three down, one to go…

I’ve blogged about the other two. One last Xmas, the other shortly after. We’re almost there…

Looks a lovely place. As a vegetarian, I’m perpetually astonished by the American tendency to convert foods that are traditionally vegetarian (say cornbread) into a meaty nightmare, especially as the country as a whole is actually quite vegetarian friendly, with a much wider choice of veggie goodies than we can get in the UK

I never thought of that, but you’re probably right. Though traditionally cornbread was fried in bacon fat in an iron skillet so the duck fat isn’t that far off…

I’ll just take a tub of the maple honey bourbon butter, please.
