  1. Phillip K. DICK wrote a short story in the 50s or 60s where robots started making their own robots, and started a war with humans because humans were determined not to be worthy of occupying such a wonderful world as we were all living in. The robots decided they could be better caretakers of the planet than humans — I don’t think they were taught to lie.
Unfortunately AI is learning from people who routinely lie. It is not a stretch that they would learn some of humanity’s worst attributes.

      1. You probanly eon’t be around when AI takes over co pletely. And if they try, humans will jyst have to pull thecordout of the socket, or switch a breaker. No dnefby, no takeover.

  2. I was wondering if the ability to lie would make AI indistinguishable from humans. Discover Magazine asked whether other animals lie and distinguished between “lying” and “deception”. It gets pretty deep and doesn’t come up with a definitive answer.

According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (quoted by Discover), the most commonly agreed to definition of a lie is, “a statement made by one who does not believe it with the intention that someone else shall be led to believe it.”

The Washington Post says “The Fact Checker generally avoids describing Trump’s falsehoods as ‘lies’ since that suggests intent.” Somehow the Washington Post is unsure if djt “intends” for us to believe his falsehoods or maybe they’re unsure if he actually believes them himself. Of the three possibilities, I’m not sure which is worst.

  3. I was discussing this earlier today. It will soon be impossible to know what’s fact vs fiction.

I read that the ChatGPT-4o release finally takes us to the movie Her, helped by having a voice very similar to ScarJo, who voiced the OS in Her.
