Miscellaneous snippets.

I don’t do shots anymore. But back when I did, they were just that… a single shot of a single alcohol. But these days every time I turn around someone is posting shot recipes with multiple ingredients. If it has more than one? It’s not a shot, it’s a mini cocktail.

That being said, where has Key Lime Liqueur been all my life? Yum.

When we lived in NC we took a neighbor’s child under wing. She had a single mother and a disabled brother and there was never enough time or money to let her enjoy the innocence of childhood so we stepped in with trips to the zoo, circus and beach. As well as emotional support, advice, a shoulder to cry on… and love. She was the daughter we never had and we love her still.

Every year she sends my husband a Father’s Day card and me a Mother’s Day card. This year I didn’t receive one and I admit it made me sad.

Until…

There’s no way to correctly segue from a surrogate mother’s love to this…

But it popped up my FB feed and I had to do a double take.

😳

It might be tasty, but I can’t say I like the name.

🥴

Now that I’m prominently displaying the family silver in the open air, polishing is taking up a lot of time. I’m always looking for shortcuts but don’t want to damage my antiques.

Has anyone ever tried this?

I saw the video and it looked too good to be true…

Magic?

If you’ve tried it and it’s safe, let me know.

  1. The silver polishing ‘hack’ has been around since such things were called “helpful household hints” – never tried it because I’ve never owned silver ‘stuff’. Originally the hint was to line your kitchen sink with aluminium foil – which is probably more efficient since you can ‘polish’ more items that way. I own lots and lots of sterling silver jewelry and I recently discovered that Dawn Powerwash and a microfiber cloth clean my jewelry fast and beautifully. I don’t know if the microfiber cloth makes any difference but that’s the only kind I have.

  2. I blame drinks like “blow job” which is kaula and whipped cream meant to be drunk like a shot, but that is in fact a mixed drink in a shot glass…maybe people are just confused 🤔

  3. Aww well I’m glad you got a card, even if it wasn’t a paper one, the meaning is just as valuable. I’m with you, if a shot has more than one ingredient, it’s not a shot.

  4. i’ve cleaned a few pieces of my silver jewelry using the baking soda/aluminum foil method. it did polish the pieces, but i’d never do it again. the sulfur fumes are sooooo bad! if you do decide to try, maybe take your pieces outside so the sulfur fumes don’t get trapped inside the house. 🙂

  5. I saw that silver-cleaning trick decades ago on Mr. Wizard’s World. He did it in real time so, yes, it works and it’s safe. He also demonstrated why you don’t spray oven cleaner on aluminum foil.
And I don’t get treating cocktails, even mini ones, as shots. The whole point of a cocktail is to savor the flavor, not knock it back.
