Rockin’ and rollin’.

.

Remember the large, oh so heavy batch of stone my husband piled on the barn porch?

.

.

The one I told him was too heavy to put in one place and might damage the frame?

.

.

Yeah.

Serious sagging that had to be propped up.

Why do men never listen? Why…

.

.

Work continues… and the more stone that’s affixed to the house, the less weight and possibility of caving in the barn porch.

I call that a win.

Progress is slow but steady.

.

.

Question… what do we think of the color combination of stone and composite decking?

When this remodel started, I chose decking that would blend with the vinyl siding. It looks very grey in photos but is actually striated with beige-y clay.

.

.

It had already been delivered by the time the husband decided to replace the siding with stone. Special order, no return…. so I’m talking myself into it blending.

What say you?

.

.

Color coordinated or not, it’s what we’ve got.

.

.

And standing on the lawn I’m beginning to get an idea of what it will look like when complete.

.

.

While choking on masonry dust that is.

😉

  1. The reason we men don’t listen to women is we’re afraid that you might mistakenly think we value your opinions.

You might think that remark was brutal and even a little condescending. The good news is, WE DON’T CARE!!!

    Sorry, kinda grouchy this morning…

  2. I like it, the colour combination. You have a good eye for these things.

My teenager asked me something this morning, I responded. He repeated the question a few minutes later and I said ‘I already responded to that’.

He OPENLY ADMITTED he wasn’t listening. Like on purpose. 😵‍💫

Gotta love ’em anyway, right? 😛

  3. From the street no one will notice the colour of the deck. The stone will look nice.

Men don’t listen because we know we know better — even when we don’t. We slready have it set in our heads what we are going to do. At that point helpful suggestions, even good ones, must not interfere with out plans.

    1. When I’m working a project? I’m happy to listen to helpful suggestions or an easier way to do things. With my husband? It’s like I’m insulting his manhood.

      1. He was tsught to be independent, just like I was. Then the Marines got hold of him and made it worse. I think it is too late for him to admit he can use help. What did he say about having to suppirt the deck?

      2. Poor guy. Wish I could tell him it’s okay to be wrong, oksy to ask for help, okay to take good advice. We come from the same era, but we grew up in opposite conditions. It isn’t eady admit weaknesses, but after the 1st time it gets easier snd essier. (They are not really weaknesses, they are strengths, but thst is not ehat we were told!)

      3. You’re right, he never asks for help. I think it’s also tied up with the aging process. Hard to admit you can’t do all that you used to… though he certainly tries.

      4. If he doesn’t face it, he could be like my father-in-law when I was married. He loved driving, but no one could convince him he wasn’t driving safely anymore. His doctor finally pulled the plug and took his licence away from him.
He went home crying to his wife, “if I can’t drive what do I have to live for?” That night he died in his sleep, totally healthy for his age. It was a very sad day for his family.

  4. Just keep in mind how great the final project will look! We are in the middle of repairing a retaining wall and …. not us … we’re paying. I’m tired of it already….. but the wall was falling over.

  5. SO STUBBORN. I don’t know why they are like that, I think mine is finally coming around, well, occasionally he listens to me.

I believe the color combination is going to work in your favor! Nothing has to be matchy-matchy these days, as long as it doesn’t clash and this does not clash. 🙂
