Because you’re not too busy right now.

I know I was born in the wrong era, but I always wished I had learned to swing dance.
Back when I had a fully functional knee that is, it wouldn’t be a pretty sight now.
The Big Bands, the Lindy Hop, the energy… it just looks like fun.
.
.
How about you?
What do you always wish you had learned…
.
Actually, I am quite busy getting ready to get on the road for the first time in 4 months! Woohoo! But, I’ll play anyway. I wish I had learned sign language. When I was a teenager I bought a sign language book and put in the effort for about two weeks and then we got an Atari. ‘Nuff said.

That would be much more helpful than swing dancing…

It’s sooooo fun!! It’s a “conceptual” language, not a literal/direct one, so yourbody and facial expressions are part of it.
I took classes back in the late 80s and have forgotten so much (plus mixed 2 different sign languages) that I wanted to take classes again. But whereas I used to go 2 nights/week, classes are now 5 days a week, daytime only.
There is (was?) a free online course from Oklahoma School For The Deaf but it’s hard to study if you don’t have a live instructor or deaf acquaintance.

I wish I had stuck with my piano lessons. My mom actually paid for me to take piano when I was in 6th grade. I went to five, and then softball season started so, I quit piano for sports. I regret not going back and learning because I think I could benefited from learning.

I did the same with guitar…

Me too! But I tried keyboard many years later and figured out that I can’t read music. Each symbol means too many things… timing, duration, tone, hand position, etc

In my inimitable way, i’ll tell you things I wish I had never learned. In the end it just may tell you what I didn’t learn when I needed to. Mind you, I have learned it over time.
Smoking. Gambling. Drinking alcohol. Hanging with the wrong friends (which may not mean what you would expect). And the biggest of all, How to lie!

A good not worth learning list…

It is very fun, especially with a strong partner who dances to the music and is athletic enough to throw you around. I’m glad I danced when I could, because I’m definitely not doing it now. When we danced hustle, the guys would trade off, just like in the video you posted.

You know how?
I’m jealous!

I used to know how! Was on a Lindy team for a while. But I am better at West Coast swing and the hustle, among other dances.

WHOAAAA!! I’m redonk envious!!
I learned the value of a good partner when someone tried to “couples dance” with me and it was a disaster. I assumed I was the problem till, years later, a coworker spun me around a dance floor with grace and style.

A good partner and good frame are so important!

After a few moments, I realize there is one thing I have tried over and over, but have never learned — to type with two hands. It is the bane of my existence.i taught myself to type with one finger before I was even in school. I became very proficient at, got up to 30 words a minute until they brought out these cursed screen keyboards.
I love to write, as probably you noticed, but my brain is hardwired for one finger. On a screen keyboard i make 30 typos a minute, Slows me right down…
And makes me look messy as hell. (This comment I proofread 3 times to make it pretty.)

No shame necessary. I’m a one handed hunt and peck typist too!

It is more frustearion than shame. Ever try to write a movel with one finger? It takes awhile, and I forget what I was intending to write.

Lol… the typos perfectly illustrate ypur point!!
I’m a 2-handed fast touch typist but on my phone, or any screen keyboard, it’s 1-finger typing.

Can I have 1 point for taking a 1940s hair/makeup class? It turned out great but was so much work that I never did either again.

I’d be too chicken, but it does look glorious…

Speak for yourself. I loved learning sign but have never used it. If my knees worked, I could be at swing dances every night of the week!!
(Trurle but, yeah, I’m just screwin’ with ya)

Similar to yours. Whenever I go to a wedding and I see all the old couples dancing I lament that dancing lessons weren’t just part of normal life like they were in my parents’ day. Also Latin. Wish I had learned that in school, but it wasn’t offered.

I took one year of Latin and then we moved. My new school didn’t offer it either…

To play guitar. I bought one cheap at a garage sale years ago, and took a few online lessons, but never stuck with it.
