.
You’ll have to think for a moment, but have faith…
I think you can do it.
.

.
I can think of quite a few I happily lived without back in the day but can’t imagine surviving the loss of now….
Power windows in cars. Did we ever roll them down manually? My mind boggles at the physical effort.
Microwaves. I don’t cook with ours but reheating leftovers quickly is one of life’s simple pleasures.
DVRs. The pleasure of watching what I want when I want cannot be beat.
But if I’m honest the number one modern convenience I can’t do without is my iPhone. It holds my 23,710 photos and keeps me in touch with long lost friends. It’s my dictionary, my calculator, my encyclopedia, and my address book. It’s a source of video entertainment, games, and shopping. I call, I text, I email. I bank, I navigate, and check the local weather. Most importantly? I blog with you lot.
Sadly, I’m not exaggerating when I say I’d be lost without it.
.

.
So how about you…
What mod con will they pry from your cold dead hands?
.
My phone is the big one. I text, email and mostly blog from this. (I don’t phone.)
Although I have a dictionary on my shelf, I have used my phone sometimes to check a spelling than pick that up.

I have the biggest that was available at the time (13 pro max)… and still need glasses to read it properly.

I currently have Samsung A14. When I chose it, I was going with price because of budget. So I never checked measurements and so I was shocked when I first seen how much bigger it was to my previous Samsung phone. I knew straight away it wasn’t going to fit in my cargo trousers leg pocket while at work. But I wouldn’t change it. 😊

I just checked… your phone has a 6.6 inch screen, mine is 6.68.

😂 That’s ok with me.

Phone, refrigerator – yes and yes. But my specs and sunglasses would be at the top of my list.

Not sure glasses qualify as modern conveniences, but yes. Me too!

I think my entire life is one big modern convenience (except phone menus), but the ones I would especially miss: dual climate control in my car, my desktop scanner, my bed pillow, and of course my iPhone.

Oh yes! Dual climate control is a menopausal marriage saver…

My stereo, definitely. Guitars aren’t exactly modern, even electric ones, so In can’t count them. I know I would miss my riding mower on the rough, hilly terrain of my back yard but I’m still gonna want some music.

Riding mowers, definitely.

Yeah, the phone is so handy. But if I had to pick? Laptop. Phone is too small for manuscripts and Excel spreadsheets. Go back to a typewriter? Never again.

Ha..i loved the typewriter but I think loved a word procesdor more. No eorries on using whiteout 😅

Typewriters, that messy ribbon…
How did we ever?

I think I’m with the consensus here and going with my iPhone as well. But a close second would be my smart TV.

I do love my DVR

The city water supply. Water that won’t give me typhoid fever, dysentery, cholera…Maybe the filter I use anyway, which is rated to remove any PFAS that may slip through, and the chlorine the city adds.
I’d rank the toilet pretty highly as well. An outhouse can be cold when the temperature is zero F.

The house we first moved to in Maine had a triple holer. The family that poos together, stays together.

Three holer! Looxury! I had a two holer. I stopped in a store in Wyoming that had separate his and hers out back.

They even left a Sears catalog from the 60’s for us…

I was going to say something about the lack of Sears catalogs nowadays…

This is a toughie, but considering my current state of health, the PETSCAN/CATSCAN/MRI machine is at the top of my list. I literally, no pun intended, cannot live without it.

I suppose I have to go with computers and the interwebz…but not particularly mobile phones – I got us mobiles back in 2002 because it looked like we were going to be in temporary housing for months and my husband never learned how to use it for anything including calls. I have the 15 Max Pro and use it only for calls, which are few and far between, and making videos for my granddaughters. I text from my computer LOL

I used to I love my computer, but the slow connection speeds we have here in the country made me switch to my phone for most things.

I was very late to the game (i think maybe 2019) of using a smart phone. Paid bills by mail, took photos with a digital camera, listened to Cd’s, wrote checks (still do but for my wife/vice versa we share some expenses), had games/used net on my tablet/pc. So i could very much go back if I wanted. Honestly I miss the days of when phones were just phones.

Funny thing is, I rarely use my phone as an implement for talking. I like the feel of our portable landline better for that.

I honestly rarely ever talk on the phone, when texting became a thing i fell into that.

Same… but unlike whatever Gen is current, I can still make calls without freaking out. I prefer txt. My phone is primarily a camera and mini computer. If they ever add web browsing to my smart tv, I’ll barely use the phone.

Books. I love to read and to turn the pages and save my spot. I will be sad if reading becomes all digital.

I love my books as well, but I’m afraid they’re not a modern convenience.

I guess mine is my car. I already gave up microwaves. I lose my phone semi-regularly (and usually only miss the camera app). I just got a DVD player after being without for 10+ years.
There’s a ton of stuff I’d miss… toaster oven, smart tv, space heater, etc… but I could live without. But no car in SoCal? That would be a life crusher!!

Agreed. Grocery shopping by horse and buggy would be tough…

The computer screen in my car that projects maps and tells me exactly where to go. I was driving around an unfamiliar area of Minneapolis not long ago and while smoothly navigating the turn-by-turn directions being called out to me, I wondered how in the heck I would have accomplished this otherwise. What, with a paper map? Hahahahahahahahah!
