I like free.

.

A year ago this week we bought Pearl.

.

.

My brand new, top of the line Subaru Forester Touring.

.

.

She’s a menopausal hot flashing woman’s wet dream with her vented air conditioned front seats.

Best.

Option.

Ever!

The dealership where we bought her is pretty sweet as well. Free car washes and free inspection stickers for the life of the vehicle and the first year anniversary service is free as well.

.

.

Free oil change, free tire rotation, free sticker and free overall check up.

.

.

We laughed when the maintenance department said they’d never seen a year old car so clean.

I love my girl and take good care of her.

While I’m not a dealership service fan and won’t be taking Pearl back there for any other work as they’re much more expensive than our trusty local guy,…

I did enjoy that $0.00 bill.

😉

  1. I have a free truck. My mom gave it to me to keep it away from my Alzheimer’s father. She knew my father wouldn’t get rid of it; but, if he believed one of his children needed it, he’d let go in a second.

The trip from Lubbock to Washington, D.C. was VERY eventful. But, I love that truck!

      1. I’ll post up on the day’s writing prompt. It’s likely going to take a while. Look for it tomorrow morning. Thank you for asking, it’s like a punch on the arm from a friend.

      2. I thought I had lost you on my subscriber list but when I checked your page it said your last post was back in April. You’ve got me worried…

  2. I’ve never considered a Subaru, but your post after you bought Pearl, and then the post after that wanting suggestions on what to name her, I started looking into the Subaru’s. I mean I’m no where near getting a new car (although I’m thinking I really need one) but Subaru is on my list.

    1. This is my second Forester and I love them. Reliable, good on gas for its size, comfortable with a high safety rating. This one has all the bells and whistles which admittedly, can be a bit much. It’s all wheel drive which is good in the snow so they’re very popular up here and always rank well. Hold their value for resale too, that’s a plus.

  3. I had a Subaru when I was a single mother and really struggling – that car really saved me. I think the most I ever paid for repairs was $300 for a new clutch (yes, my dear, it was a long time ago!)

  4. I had the most unexpected thing happen with my Subaru Crosstrek recently. My regular shop wanted $1800 for my 60K mile service (which, admittedly, is more involved than the 30K or 90K services). Still, that seemed awfully steep to me, so I did something uncharacteristic and asked the dealership what they charge for that service. The response? $1200! I couldn’t believe it. And not only that, they said since 60K involves new spark plugs and that takes several hours, they would give me a loaner car for free (it’s always a gorgeous new Subaru from the dealership whereas the local shop gives a jalopy). I’m all for supporting small business, but $600 is nothing to sneeze at. Dealership 1, local shop 0, at least this time around.

    1. That’s completely opposite from up here. Our go to guy is an old friend of my husband’s who has his own shop. When husband needed a water pump a few years ago the dealership wanted $1400 to change it, our guy charged $300.
And we just took his BMW into a fancy schmantsy dealership here for a recalled item… had an appointment that they sent us 3 reminders for but when we got there? No appointment. It was supposed to be a three hour job where they’d give us a loaner but we ended up sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours because they said no vehicles were available. They were supposed to email the paperwork but never did. Really bad service. I expected more from BMW.

      1. That is seriously frustrating. I’m so sick of getting recall notices. They’re like “Hey, we’ll cover the cost” and I’m like, “Can you cover my time, too? Yeah, I didn’t think so.” Time is money, car makers!

      2. And they were so blasé at what was clearly their error. When we got there and they told us we didn’t have an appointment I had to show them the reminders to prove we did and they seemed put out to fit us in. As for the loaner car that never materialized another customer in the waiting room told us they don’t loan… they rent.
        What!
