.
In a time when our country is becoming more and more divided, let me drive the wedge down a little bit deeper.
.

.
The first pet I remember as a child was Hector.
.

.
He was followed by Herman and Henry.
.

.
And Hiram and Hortense.
.

.
Then Hubert and Horace and Harold…
.

,
As well as Herbert.
My parents had a thing for the letter H, what can I say?
When I married my husband he thought he was a dog person, but it didn’t take him long to switch allegiance to Team Cat.
We had Frank.
.

.
And Mr.White.
.

.
And Huffington.
.

.
Who looked very much like Frank but wasn’t.
There was Duchess and Theodore and Pooter ( don’t ask) .
.

.
And Bubba.
.

.
And Sam and a long list of others we’ve loved and lost, ending with our current ruling monarch…
.

.
Lord Dudley Mountcatten.
While there have been occasional dogs at Casa River, I think it’s safe to say my heart is firmly planted in feline soil.
Where do you stand…
Cat or dog?
.
Dogs, of course. Big, clumsy, drooling dogs. Their personalities are what we aspire to…

Mindless, drooling followers? I think we have enough of them in Washington….

Yeah, but dogs will follow you for a small can of butcher floor sweepings…

I’ve lived with both at the same time – grew up with dogs, acquired cats as a single adult – and while cats are a bit easier, no walking in the rain, snow, sleet or gloom of night, I love dogs, marvelous creatures that they are. Why choose? Love them all! I would have both if I could.

Agreed. I love all…
But if you HAD to pick?

CATS ALL DAY! We have three, it keeps them from getting too bored I’ll leave this up so Cathy will have a look at the pics. I’m sure she’ll get a charge out of them.

The photo of Herbert, with his head under the lampshade, was taken near the end of his life where he searched for warmth. He used to crawl so close to the fireplace we feared he’d be burned.

I’m definitely a cat person, I have been since I was a child and my first ginger, DC. While I was married I didn’t really have pets because my ex was a dog person so the canines we had were really his. But I loved them very much, we had a pit bull named Kane. He was just the sweetest giant you could ever love. Then of course in 2017 Charles “Bruiser” O’Houlihan (aka Charlie, aka Fatso Catso) came along. And of course in April of 2023 Wayne Tiberius Kirk joined the family. So I think it’s safe to say every one in my family are cat people. His Lordship had an awesome and line of predecessors, I must say.

I’ve only had dogs—though my grandma had a kitty when I was little and I really did love her. But since my daughter adopted a kitty through her boyfriend and made me a cat grandma, I’ve fallen in love with cats too. So I say both. Does that count as cheating?

You must choose…

I was definitely Team Cat, though I had both growing up. Andy is Team Dog. I then became Team Big Rescue Dog because I could walk around Los Angeles in the dark. Now that I can’t walk as much or as far, though, it’s back to cats.

While I love all pets, there’s something about cats that speaks to me. Dogs are very needy… cats are the personification of not giving a f*ck.

I love nearly all animals (hadmice, hamsters, cats, a dog, fish, and rabbits as pets through life) but cats are attracted to me, so Crazy Cat Lady it is.

You have 24 cats?
You definitely win.
The most we ever had at one time was 6…

I tell people to stop at 3 cats!

Golly – you may just have had more pets than me. I noted a beagle in there — they are the best dogs. I do think dogs are more like humans but cats overall are easier to take care of.

That’s just a small sampling of our furry friends. And yes, my father grew up with beagles in England so we always had one. Hiram was special, and the only time I ever saw my father cry was when he died .

My guy never had a cat until we were married. And it’s funny because Dudley adores him… follows him everywhere.

We’ve had dogs and cats and I loved them all. We named ours after characters in Rocky and Bullwinkle. I had Sherman the cat, Natasha Fatale the Rotti, then Dudley, but then our dog we adopted from Guide Dogs when he was kicked out was already named Angus. My daughter’s kitty I wanted her to name Nell, but she refused and named her Olive.

I was firmly Team Dog for most of my life (though having one was only ever a dream and not a reality), but I now maintain membership on two teams: Team Cat and Team Rabbit.

I’m laughing at all the H’s for your cats!
I grew up as a cat person, and always had cats. That being said, the last three cats we had were assholes. They were all orange tabbies, so maybe it’s an orange thing?
I’m currently a dog person. I loathe the litter boxes, and the scratching of furniture, but of course, dogs come with their own legion of issues too.
Perhaps I should be a Pet Rock person.

Dog although through no fault of my own I feed 2 feral cats. Took pity on a pregnant momma and thought one of the rescues would come once she gave birth, not knowing that if you feed them in Az, they are considered yours.
