The good, the bad and the indifferent.
First, the good.
.

.
If you’re a loyal Dexter fan from way back like me, you had to suffer through a few less than stellar reboots… but the current incarnation gets a four star thumbs up. He’s baaaack and so is Angel Batista. The addition of Peter Dinklage as a twisted millionaire serial killer super fan is a nice touch. You won’t be disappointed.
.

.
Smoke is a wild ride. A psychological thriller about arsonists and arson investigators, it has interesting plot twists, is often disturbing… and extremely watchable.
.
And now for the bad.
.

.
I read Asimov’s book series years ago, it’s classic sci fi and hard to beat. So when I saw there was a well reviewed tv show that told the story? I was all in. Until I watched the first few episodes and couldn’t understand what all the hype was about. Maybe it picked up later on but I didn’t stick around to find out. I found the acting sub par and the story line disjointed and hard to follow. Disappointing, that.
.

.
Never having been to Hawaii and only knowing its basic history I gave this show a try since it was getting good reviews. First turn off? It’s spoken entirely in Hawaiian and every word is subtitled. Sorry, but I don’t want to work that hard. Second turn off? Jason Momoa’s butt. There’s too much of it and we see it entirely too often. He’s not the rock hard Khal Drogo from GOT anymore, trust me on this. I only watched three episodes and had to quit.
.
And finally, the indifferent.
.

.
Like most young women in the 90’s, I read and fell in love with Outlander. Like most middle aged women a few decades later, I enjoyed the long awaited HBO series with its time traveling love story and stunning Scottish scenery. So when this new accompanying show about Jamie and Claire’s parents started I happily jumped on board. And while it’s not totally awful, it lacks the spark of the original and feels dishwater flat. I’ll finish it, just because. But I can’t say I recommend it.
.
Several years ago I started watching the American spinoff (from the British original) of House of Cards. I liked it, so I’m not sure why I stopped watching halfway into season two. Anyway, there are six seasons now and I’ve rediscovered it. It’s practically addictive, which is not good. I’ve been known to stay up way past my bedtime bingeing episodes.

Binging is addictive. I’ve been known to make sandwiches for dinner when I’m in deep.

Well I’ve heard of Dexter, would like to see it. The other shows are new to me. Just finished Astrid, am starting Only Murders in the Building. I am a one episode a day girl, so I stretch out my viewing enjoyment.

Is Murders Netflix? I’d like to watch that but don’t subscribe …. yet.

No, it’s on Hulu. [Don’t hate me for not cancelling it.]

I love Dexter, and I love this continuation of it as well. I think Peter Dinklage is an awesome addition to this series. I’ll check out Smoke, it looks like its right up my alley. The others don’t really catch my attention, but I will say, Only Murders In The Building is AWESOME SAUCE! I binged watched the latest season in one Saturday and can’t wait for the next. Also, as honorable mention Wednesday the series on Netflix, it’s a very macabre version of the Addams Family movies. Season 2 dropped early this month and also binge watched and loved it. Every sarcastic, narcist, egotistical moment of it!

That’s my problem with streaming services, they all have that one great show. I subscribe to 3, and get 2 more through our Direct tv, but not Hulu or Netflix. Yet.

My husband is watching SMOKE and CHIEF OF WAR. I keep popping in on the Hawaiian miniseries to ask if Kahekili is properly tattooed, has done certain massacres, is using his enemies skulls as chamberpots, etc. (I am sure I am very annoying, but I did a lot of historical research on that time period at one point). I don’t mind the subtitles myself, but I hate historical inaccuracies. Andy likes it because 1) violence, and 2) set in Hawaii (where he grew up).

Now you’ve got me wondering… were there skull chamber pots?

Andy says no. They had orgies, though, which is also historically questionable.

I’ve not watched any of these, and I probably won’t.
Dexter is too bloody for me.
I tried watching Outlander years ago (after reading the first book) and for some reason, I wasn’t jazzed about it.
What happened to Jason’s butt? The same thing that happened to ours? 😂

If you mean wider and flabbier, yes.

I’ve finished me than a few shows “just because”. I guess it’s the sunken cost fallacy at work. But man, if I could warn my younger self, if save myself A LOT of wasted time (cough Alien: Earth cough cough)

I figured from the trailer Jason’s Chief Of War was pretty much a star vehicle for him, but it sounds like his butt is the real star. Not a show I can get behind.
