.
Heading out to the 175th Fryeburg Fair, a selfie.
.

.
This is the oldest (175 years) and the biggest fair in Maine. How big, you ask?
.

.
This big.
And after a late start due to my husband playing cribbage at breakfast with friends, we arrived two hours later than planned.
.

.
On the way to parking the car? RV heaven.
Or hell as far as I’m concerned. Densely packed on flat dirt as far as the eye can see, I can’t imagine spending a week like that, but people come from all over New England and look forward to it every year.
To each their own.
.

.
Many people go to the fair for the rides and carnival atmosphere … we’re not those people.
.

.
We started with the race horses.
.

.
Beautiful creatures who enjoy an occasional scratch.
.

.
This poor fellow was trying to take a nap.
.

.
While this one looked ready to munch a mum.
.

.
Food trucks and vendors were everywhere but my husband hates eating lunch standing up and ducked into the one little restaurant they have on site instead.
Big mistake.
.

.
It’s a bare bones place with a limited menu. They didn’t even have ice for our drinks. Warm Pepsi anyone?
.

.
Husband had a watery bowl of stew with a biscuit you could use for a boat anchor while I had a dry turkey salad roll the waitress mistakenly charged me $1 for instead of the $11 it cost. A dollar was really all it was worth, but the cashier caught the error and we moved on.
.

.
To the draft horses.
.

.
Who were finishing the pulling show the husband usually likes to watch.
.

.
These horses are gentle giants and I hate to see them straining …
.

.
So I wasn’t disappointed we’d missed most of it.
.

.
This beauty stood almost 19 hands.
.

.
And the husband spent more than 19 minutes talking to this owner while I wandered around.
.

.
Out back, these fellows were getting a bath.
Percherons, Belgians, and Haflingers. They never fail to impress.
.
That’s the biggest fair of any kind I have seen.

We never manage to see it all in one day.

Yes. I would expect seeing half of that would be impossible in one day. It’s massive.

I wanted to go but the traffic at a standstill does me in after all the miles I have done in my past lol the food you are right is crazy in price for what you get and I hate watching those horses bred to pull, being used that way, we must be of the same mindset 🙂 I know it is not age because all those screaming for their team are not all 20 years old. The campers who bring their animals to show off at the local fairs, probably love their beds close by 🙂 I am like you I’ll pass on the smell and flies lol

We went on Wednesday so the traffic was bad, but not awful. And the weather was perfect!

We have had a nice stretch for sure, glad you got in and out unscathed, we missed all our fairs this year.

Looks like the carnival found a batch of Bluey plushies that fell off a boxcar…
I’m not someone who would be tempted to put my fingers in a horse’s mouth (or a horse’s anything else), but I’m glad the sign is there to warn me not to anyway…

You know somebody did just that sometime… hence the sign.
Ouch!

The horses were beautiful. It would be worth the trip to the fair see them.

Beautiful horses!
You didn’ have a corndog? I’ve been craving a fair corndog for weeks! But all our fairs are over.

My husband isn’t a junk food guy. I did have a fried dough as we walked around though…
😉

I tried funnelcakes once… disgusting!! Most fair food seems to be fried in temps that are too low. Plus I don’t like sweet fried dough food (donuts, cannoli, etc)

First, love the title. Second, great selfie! Sorry your food was subpar.
Yes, the horses are beautiful. I like them too. You didn’t visit the llamas and alpacas? Dang. I would’ve liked to see those too. But, hard to compete with the horses.

There will be llamas tomorrow afternoon.

Did he at least win the cribbage game(s)?

Won two, lost one.

At least he actually wins at cribbage, unlike your head-to-head Scrabble games…

I don’t play cribbage (as there’s entirely too much math).
😉

Despite my aversion to math, I play cribbage and have gotten pretty good at it.

I love the big animals! If we make it back to the Sandwich Fair, I will be stationed by the oxen barn

Horses are such lovely creatures. Ale horses; is that the same as Clydesdales?
