.
A weekend in Maine in the fall calls for a scenic drive to enjoy the glorious foliage, so that’s what we did.
.

.
Stumbling on a covered bridge was a happy surprise.
.

.

.
On our travels, the husband saw a sign for an antique tractor show and craft fair at a local farm so we detoured there.
Not our best idea.
.

.
Yes, there was a farm.
.

.
And yes there were some old tractors.
.

.
Some in use.
.

.
And while there were two miniature horses…
.

.
And a “dining room” with the worst fried dough I’ve ever had…
.

.
(Hard as a rock, crunchy and tasteless)
.

.
The “craft show” consisted of fresh vegetables, a few tables of American flag boards, patriotic signs and multiple tables of right wing propaganda. There were candidates handing out pamphlets and political ephemera, trying their best to swell the MAGA base.
These are just not our people y’all. And while I respect their right to be there, I have to admit I wasn’t expecting to be arguing about restricting voting rights and ICE roundups at a craft show.
My husband is a veteran of a certain age. He has grey hair and wears a Marine Corps hat. That’s usually all it takes for people to assume he loves the Mango Monarch … which couldn’t be further from the truth.
They kept trying to draw him into discussion but my guy just brushed them off and didn’t engage, other than to make it clear where he stood.
Color me surprised.
We departed soon after and got back on the road…
.

.
Where the husband found a barn sale.
And can you see what’s in his hands?
Another wooden ruler.
🥴
.

.
Which called for a cocktail and some nibbles.
.

.
And more scenic beauty.
.
Yes. I agree. Not something you would expect at a craft sale.
The food at the end of your post looked much better than that dough.
The bridge looked nice amongst those trees.

I love a covered bridge. And discovering one we never knew existed is even better.

That’s even better when discovering one you didn’t know about. 😊

Constant politicizing everything is getting on my nerves. They try it with baseball too, using stupid terms about sticking it to such and such if the Jays win the World Series…
Great to read husband didn’t get sucked in. He deserves that wooden ruler. 😃
Switzerland is full of covered bridges. Aren’t they cute! I can’t say I’ve seen any in my area but it’s possible they exist outside of my region…

Man, this is one great World Series though. Even politics can’t ruin it!

Yeah, it’s a real shame when politics creeps unexpectedly into things.
It’s our right, but it can be alienating. So why risk it?

It was just so unexpected.
Though these days, I suppose it shouldn’t have been.

It’s always unexpected if you aren’t looking for a political view specifically. That’s why it’s so jarring. And unwelcome.

The covered bridge is so pretty. Not worth dealing with MAGA, though.

Unexpected, but we didn’t let it ruin our day.

Beautiful photos! Sorry to read that people tried to ruin it by bringing politics into it. I long for the days when – in my country, at least – your political leaning wasn’t your entire personality! There’s something very cult-like happening on both sides of the border nowadays.

Hats off to your hubby for letting people know that Marine does not equal MAGA.

The writing was on the wall when Trump called John McCain a loser for being captured. How any member of the armed forces can support him is beyond me.

I agree that should have been the last straw.

I gotta ask Mrs. B if we still have some wooden rulers in the house. I feel nostalgia towards them now. That fried dough…no.

If you don’t, I could send you a few… dozen.

According to our media he has pretty much confirmed that he intends to stand for a third term – although he hasn’t said how. He’s said he won’t do it by standing as VP for a president who would immediately stand down as that would be amoral (pretty good for someone who doesn’t appear to have a moral!) but, of course, all things are possible in times of war. Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada (almost anyone other than Russia) take your pick…

He’s a lame duck President trying to hold on to the power to threaten all his detractors. If our politicians weren’t so spineless none of this would be happening..

Think that worldwide we all need to strap in because it is all showing no sign of improvement

It’s not so funny when you have to live with the stupid things….

I’m sure. I bet you could measure around the earth with those rulers and yardsticks by now. Twice. 😉

If I could leave them all laying on the ground while doing it, I would try.
