.
We have cellular shades in our living room and dining area.
.

.
We put them up a while back when we had the new windows installed. They’re lightweight, light filtering and the perfect color.
.

.
So of course, the largest one just died.
.

.
It’s stuck in this position. And no matter how many times my husband took it apart and tried to fix it, he couldn’t.
Now, you might say… so what?
That 6 inch gap isn’t a big deal.
But after the sun moves to the front of the house and we want to open the blinds?
.

.
We have to stand on the couch and manually fold it up double and balance it on the top rail.
This is not a look I’m willing to live with.
So we went shopping for its replacement…. which no longer exists because the company changed all the colors and materials. We searched everywhere, in every store, in person and online.
Nada.
I even contacted the Levelor company directly. No dice.
My husband was all for buying one blind of another brand that didn’t match, but was “close enough”… but even the sales guy looked at him like he was color blind. It wasn’t close. It wasn’t even in the same family.
So as much as I hate the thought, we’re going to have to replace five blinds instead of one.
.

.
I found these, which are very similar.
.

.
Woodland taupe.
Perfect.
What wasn’t so perfect? The price.
For 5 lousy cellular shades!
.

.
I gulped.
My husband choked.
Damn. Are they dipping these things in gold dust now?
😩
.
Yikes!

Suggestion: Just replace the broken one and get one that is a print that coordinates with the others and matches the room. Make it look like you bought it that way on purpose.

Have you looked at Blinds.com? It’s scary to order custom stuff, but we’ve had luck replacing old with their products.

It’s too hard to judge color matches online. And if it doesn’t match exactly? It will drive me nuts. Levelor has changed the materials since we bought ours, they have a sheen now that mine don’t.

I think maybe Blinds.com will send you color swatches.

I’ll check. Thanks…

Wow, on the other hand I was thinking at least your neighbors can’t peer in as you don’t have anyone within walking distance of this window. Wow, expensive. you really need options in the area or know how to shop online.

I know how to shop online. They simply don’t make the one I need to replace anymore….

Oh, okay. No ribbing, Mike is the kind of shopping online. Let me tell you, he can pinpoint with precision the sale, the price, and voila. I like in person but I get the convenience and the necessity of online Amazon and other venues. Sometimes, it just is the most practical.

Believe me, I’d love to find one online… but no one has it.

Perhaps a good local store is the best bet.

Tried them. Local. Big box. Designer. Specialty. Discount. No one has that particular color and material.

Blinds always seem to fail for me. I save myself the grief and aggravation by sticking to curtains instead.
Your post did remind me of Veruca Salt’s 1994 alternative rock hit, “Number One Blind.” Great song, and Levolor features prominently in the chorus. You’d almost think it was a product endorsement, but it’s a metaphor for the way love can blind you to rational judgment to the point where you can’t even see what’s right in front of you. Deep, man.

I can see what’s right in front of me. And it’s broken…

Can’t you try going for a contrast colour for the middle blind instead?

One contrasting color out of five would drive me crazy.

Hehe. Well, I had to say something, even if it was crazy! My daughter would suggest pulling them all down and painting on all of them. I am not that far-gone…yet.

You got a deal. We had to replace two in one bedroom. Same issue with a discontinued color. The pair were >$550. I also gulped. And I just noticed that the top edge of one in another room is starting to pull away from the frame.

Every so often our cellular shades breaks, and we have a local place that fixes them. It used to cost $60/shade but now I think it’s closer to $80 (for probably 15 minutes of work). I always say I will go on Youtube and watch how to fix them myself, but I never do.

We tried that. Nothing worked.
