Praise the God of Tequila! The man cave in the Barn Mahal is toasty and warm once more.

A brand new ( to replace the almost new 3 month old ) exterior heat pump unit was installed yesterday afternoon. It looks exactly like the other one, but it damn well better last longer.
I asked the installers what the error codes showed was wrong with the first one and received a long detailed explanation. It went something like this…..
.
.
Refrigerant. Blah blah blah. Coil. Blah blah blah. Build up. Blah blah blah.
The section of explanation that did translate clearly? The fact that the manufacturers say what went wrong was a one in a million occurrence.
Yay us. We have all the luck.
.
Stay warm….coming to the end of week 2 of below zero temps.
Sending them along to you still.

“One in a million” Why doesn’t that surprise me?

Do I denote a trace of skepticism in that comment…?

No. Just that I think you guys have a one-in-a-million franchise going up there. I mean that in a good way.

If something can go wrong one in every one million times, you know it will be when we do it. That’s a given.

I think sometimes replacing things is cheaper than fixing them. But then replacing things seems to happen more frequently these days. It’s expensive either way.

It’s so trite to say they don’t make them like they used to…. but it’s entirely true. Our first refrigerator was from Montgomery Wards and didn’t die until it was 32 years old. The last repairman I had in said you’d be very lucky to see 10 years out of a new one. Our last new one lasted 5.

They really don’t last. In the space of 9 years, we’ve had two washing machines, two fridges, two stoves and numerous electrical appliances. 5 years is pretty good in my opinion.

And for what we paid? It’s ridiculous.

I’ve had the same wife for 52+ years and she’s still in top shape. Unfortunately, her bottom has seen better days, but like the old saying says, half a wife is better than none.

You prove my point. They made them to last back then!

Those one in a million things just never happen when we buy a lottery ticket…

I’ve heard that heat pumps are supposed to be super efficient, but have never actually lived anywhere that had one.
