.
A few more chuckles from our recent power outage during the storm.
When you live in Maine, you own lobster cooking pots.
And when the power is out for a day and a half due to a monster winter storm, you use your fireplace for heat. This burns copious amounts of wood, which results in copious amounts of ash. And when you can’t find your old ash bucket?
You improvise.
.

.
With a lobster pot.
.

.
Which worked remarkably well.
.

.
Though I probably should have dug a little deeper in the closet for the larger one.
.

.
And speaking of improvising…
The wire mesh curtain that slides across our fireplace is a wonderful thing. It keeps sparks and small pieces of wood from jumping out and burning down our house. In other words, it’s important.
Ours has always been temperamental and must be slid with care, something my husband naturally ignored. He tugged and pulled and ripped all day which resulted in half of the metal strip that holds the curtain in place to come crashing down.
His solution?
.

.
I think you know me well enough to realize this will not be tolerated for long.
🤣

We horde paper bags at the grocery store for our ashes. Granted, we only use our fireplace maybe 4-5 times a year,

This is the first time we’ve used ours in years.

Time for a new screen and to find the ash buckets you’re in Maine you need that bucket for yummy things 🙂

We use a plastic bucket with some water in the bottom. I’ve used it a few times in the last week.

Our yard contributes to our firewood supply, too.

Not having a fireplace anymore I don’t need an ash bucket. The hubs is somewhat of an improve MacGyver there with the quick fix. I know it won’t take long for you to demand he fix it proper, lol.

It’s been 4 days and it’s still there.

We had the same problem with our metal fireplace curtain!

Glad to read you’re safe. As for that fireplace curtain – it looks too modern, i.e. made to fall apart and be replaced. Surely hubby has a Victorian era one somewhere amidst his pile of …stuff. Old stuff was built to last. Stay warm.

You would think, but no.

I always put my embers into a paper bag because paper is biodegradable. You’re a MONSTER!

I miss our fireplace so much. Even without a lobster pot for clearing away the ash.

We don’t use that it often, but it’s nice to have.
