We had a small amount of the white stuff last night and crazy as it sounds, it was the first to actually stick on the ground this winter.
In celebration of that I thought I would share a few glimpses out our windows this morning…. because sunrise over snow is pretty damned spectacular.

After I posted a few of these to Facebook, I saw our farming neighbor had posted some as well. Here’s his shot, with our house and barn in the background.

I could appreciate it if the central heat was reliably hissing out of the vents …

A lot of people don’t like winter but I think it’s gorgeous.

We have the same sunrise without all that dull white stuff—we have blues, greens, yq-achts, canoes, ocean waves, etc.

Boring….
I need a change of season.

Unless you had snow and temps below freezing, you didn’t have winter.

With wind chill factor we did have freezing and there is false ‘snow’ all over BUT the funniest are the people from Maine complaining how they are ‘cold’ here11

What the heck is false snow?

I’m afraid to ask what they make it out of BUT kids sleigh on it, it is all over the mall floors etc.

Sounds dreadful.

Try minus 40 over xmas, Celcius or Fahrenheit. Without the wind chill. But I’m not complaining. This is normal where I live.

That’s a bit extreme. Even for me…

This is similar to what we woke up to. Like you, I like winter. All a person needs is the right outdoor clothes, which I have. I like walking in the winter better than in the summer.

I’m menopausal and hot flashing. I hate the summer now…

The first winter I was here, we had a pretty big snow, well, for here anyway. I had moved up from Florida and were living on a steep hill, so no way was I driving in that. I took off for work at 4:30 AM to walk about a mile and a half to work. It was beautiful. No cars on the street or anything moving within earshot, just my boots crunching into the snow and big fat flakes softly touching down all around me. I was cold as Hell when I got to work but I was glad to have done it when I was coming up the gray, slushy Main Street on my way home. I love your sunrise pics. Snow or not, you get a lot of them and I love your appropriately situated neighbors. I like all the music and I believe in appropriate volume. If that was me, I’d be thinking win-win. Nice post, thank you.

There’s nothing like freshly fallen snow. It quiets the world around you….

I commend you on getting a sunrise on “film” that looks just as good as it does in real life. For some reason, every picture I take of our pretty winter sunrises just ends up looking like a yellowish-orange blob.

Ours are pretty dramatic. It’s hard not to get a good one.

That is snow. Snow means cold. From my angle, that negates any “beautiful” part.

I need the change of seasons, love snow and dislike heat… so I’m in the right place.

It’s beautiful – the diversity of nature’s seasons are beautiful. I imagined myself sitting there all rugged up with a steaming beverage in my gloved hands.

Our living room doesn’t require gloves, but I’ll be happy to pour you some tea.

It just doesn’t feel like real winter without it.
