Bumblebee heaven

.

I have a thing for bumblebees.

.

.

Thankfully the bees have a thing for my rhododendrons.

.

.

When the bushes are in bloom they’re covered with fat fuzzy bumblers…. and I love it!

.

.

I’d love it more if the little darlings would stay still long enough for me to snap a decent blog photograph, but you get the idea.

.

.

Long live the bees!

  1. Our lilacs are finally in full bloom, but it seems we only have 1 bee hard at work on the lot of them.
Our bee situation in northern Alberta is becoming dire. The bee farmers are complaining about bee ticks, or some other infestation that is dropping their bee populations by more than half.
So far I have not seen more than 1 bee at a time, and this bee is 3 times the size of any bee I have ever seen, including drones. But it is as hard-working as any bee I have ever seen too. I have no idea how many blooms are on a lilac stem, but it dutifully takes the pollen from esch one.
Ack! It is raining for the first time here in over a month. But the sun is shining. What’s up with that. And already we are down to a drizzle. Boooooooooo!

      1. They are dying as fast as they are bringing them in, for now. The beekeepers have to sanitize their hives, but I don’t know that is happening. If we lose all our bees, there will be tragedy here.

  2. I like bumblebees, too. We have some wine glasses made of pressed glass that have a bumblebee motif on them. Wine tastes exceptionally good when drunk out of those glasses.
