Just my luck.

.

There’s nothing worse than not being able to take advantage of freebies. And while I was thrilled to win a free book a when I first joined Goodreads, not being able to claim their next giveaway offer is frustrating.

I hate ereaders and don’t own a Kindle. Audio is not my thing either. So because I’m old school and prefer tactile reading, I’m missing out on a free book.

And that’s frustrating.

      1. I understand, truly I do and perhaps time and circumstance will never keep you from a library but for those of us who have no physical access to a library or the monetary resources to spend on a ‘throw-away’ book, ebooks have been a godsend. I do still on occasion buy a hard copy of a book. But buy a book I know I will only read once? No I have better things to do with my limited funds. I too was adamant I would never do ebooks and now I appreciate them for many reasons. When I find something I want to copy and keep I can now easily highlight, copy and paste it into a document on my computer – my “Quotes’ file is chock-a-block. When I come across a word I don’t know I can instantly look it up, if I come across some interesting concept I can also easily research it. These aspects of books – new words, intriguing ideas, are important to me and easily followed up with ebooks. I don’t do audio books because I don’t absorb spoken information – a real problem for me when I was in college but if there comes a time when my vision is compromised I may well have to find a way to adapt. Enjoy your hard copies, or real books as you call them, I know their allure and may you always have the ability to indulge that pleasure.

      2. I understand that as well and am glad we have options when it comes to reading. As you say, there may come a day when I have to switch and I’m sure I’ll be very glad digital is there.

      1. I hear ya, and I completely agree with you. And I save all my books as well, I collect hardcover classic literature and fiction, leather bound. It’s like collecting shoes, but these I’ll keep forever, lol.

  1. I’ve been a ‘book in my hand’ reader too, but I’m thinking of trying digitally, just for the back lighting part. My pups constantly yank my book light off my book. Little turds.
