Grey, grey… go away.

.

Furniture shopping continues and I’ve realized like everything else in my life it’s not going to be easy.

Though we have numerous stores and what seems like endless choices, if you’re like me and buck trends… there’s going to be trouble.

.

.

In every one of the six stores I’ve visited so far?

.

.

Grey. White. A little blue…

And more grey.

While I have nothing against the color per se, variety is the spice of life and when it comes to decor I need some.

And please don’t tell me corporate only displays one vision and I can choose different fabrics.

.

.

Because in store after store?

.

.

95% of those are grey as well.

  1. My hair (what’s left of it) is grey, I’m way too old to dye it and too thin to diet, apparently the only way to spice up my life is to shake salt, pepper, and a variety of spices on my head…. which would probably make me sneeze my head off. Woe is me.

  2. I like the charcoal grey furniture. It’s like a clean slate – the colour of slate – to use as the backdrop for other colours. My sofa is grey, the floor oak wood and the wall Garden Stone (Benjamin Moore).

    But.

I’m surprised at the lack of versatility in stores. That’s a bit odd.

  3. I have liked grey for a long time but – BUT – not everywhere on everything. NO to grey walls, grey floors, grey kitchen cabinets. Basically large swaths of grey – no, no. I prefer the darker greys or the silver greys. Grey is a great neutral and background for bright colors – I have a fairly dark grey sofa with bright orange throw pillows. Same for bedsheets – dark grey with an orange or teal cover. I really hate white in all its many shades. And that said just the other day on one of the real estate sites the list of things decorators wish would go away is – Grey (also curved sofas and bar carts and gallery walls.)

  4. I suppose they’ll encourage you to buy some of their overpriced throw pillows to add that “splash of color.” I don’t mind gray either, but with all the warm wood in your living room, gray doesn’t strike me as the right choice. Do you have the patience to outlast this bland trend? (You like standing in a furnitureless room, right?)
