I put a bowl of grain out every night for the deer.

😁😊 This is going to look interesting. There may be a sports commentary coming. For the story so far from the other post I read and counting this post, deer 0. Momma chuck 0 Duck 2.

Mallard seems to be very possesssive. Why not try two or even 3 plates of grain tonight. He cannot guard all three, and the deer must be feeling unloved by now, which we know is not true. The third plate can be for Mama Chuck and the kids — if Mama Chuck shares!

Momma’s not big on sharing. And we do put out multiple bowls of food in the fall and winter.

I thought you did. But Spring and Summer, not so much? You “could” lose the deer if they find somewhere else…We lost the main flock of Evening Grosbeaks that way.

No, they just move on in late spring every year because there are better things to eat elsewhere . We have a straggler show up now and then but the herd will be back in October.

Ducks are some mean sumbitches. Mama Chucker’s smart to concede defeat…

No. Our guy is a gentleman, just a wee bit protective of his food.

Momma Chuck has obviously never indulged in a delicious duck a’la orange. She might never be content with grain again!
