The husband and I drove out to Harpswell recently to have dinner at Dolphin Marina.
.

.
It’s a beautiful spot.
.

.
And well off the beaten path.
.

.
A working marina.
.

.
With a nice restaurant at its tip.
.

.
One disappointing summer sangria in…
( I told the bartender it was tasteless, he told me a lot of people were saying that. Then for heavens sake, why are you serving it!)
.

.
My crab cakes were fab.
.

.
Husband went with a cup of lobster bisque which was rich, heavenly and crammed with lobster.
It was also served in a coffee cup and cost $28. Gulp.
.

.
The fog was rolling in…
.

.
Which made for an eerie light.
.

.
The watermelon mint spritz? Much better.
.

.
My pan seared Parmesan haddock was lovely.
.

.
As was my husband’s lobster pasta.
.

.
Too full for dessert after enjoying the homemade blueberry muffins that come with every meal…
.

.
We headed home.
.

.
Enjoying the views along the way.

IN 2001, we had an odyssey. I won a free trip for 2 to Cuba and got to see what Americans are missing out on, so beautiful, such beautiful people. On one tour we got to go swimming with the dolphins. The naturalist in me rebelled, dolphins should not be forced to swim with humans, but my partner really wanted to so I went with her. We didn’t really swim, just stood about 4′ deep in an enclosure, and the dolphins came to us as they were trained to do. But they seemed to enjoy it, and it was certainly an experience to touch their sleek bodies and just sort of interact with them. (I think one of the women we were with was “in heat” because the two male dolphins were all over her, rubbing up against her and swimming around her and through her legs. After a minute she got out of the water, starting to get a bit scared, and the dolphins followed her as she walked along the dock, standing on their tails for her. It was quite the sight for the rest of us.)
All we have now of that trip is memories. The camera we had must have gone through an x-rsay machine at some point– it was in our luggage. None of the pictures turned out. What a loss!

Cuba would be a fascinating place to visit. My husband was stationed there years ago, but they weren’t allowed off the base…. so no dolphins.

Awwwwww. If ever your borders are opened, it is well worth the time and money to go. Take lots of $1 bills. The people there love them as tips.

Lovely photos! Friend Husband and I are about to head off on an adventure soon that may include some similarly lovely scenery.

Wait, you told the bartender the sangria was tasteless, and still he/she did nothing to remedy the situation? Wow. Glad to know the food was better, it looked heavenly.

Yes, it was odd. The sangria combo sounded good.. rose wine, plum brandy, white cranberry… but was absolutely tasteless. I told him that and he agreed.
WTH?

I know lobster is expensive, but that was a bit much.
