.
Just a quick question this week.
.

.
You either love it or hate it. There’s rarely any middle ground.
I am not a fan. My husband is.
I make it for him every once in a while, but have never added it to special holiday meals.
This year we went to a friend’s home for the traditional feast… and while she didn’t cook it, another guest brought one.
So though I wasn’t responsible, technically I have to say yay.
How about you?
Yay or nay to the controversial beans…
.
Nay… my entire “dinner” was some potato chips.
I go back & forth on green bean casserole. I think I was in my 30s the 1st time I had it (never a part of my family’s dinners). I’ve never made it.

The original version can be a mess, but I’ve had homemade versions with fresh veggies that can be tasty.

That seems logical. Now I’m craving it!

Nay. We went out. I had Parmesan-crusted risotto Shrimp, and Eve had Raw Ahi sliced Tuna. It is Florida. The seafood is better than Turkey “with all th’ fixuns”

The tuna was excellent but we brought home the key lime pie which we are saving for tonight! Dessert is my favorite.

Any chance I can get your recipe? I’ve never had it and searching random recipes doesn’t appeal to me. Prefer going with recommendations. Curious… (No rush)

My recipe for green bean casserole? I don’t have one other than the one on the French’s fried onions container. As I said, I’m not a big fan.
1 can
(101/2 oz.)
Campbell’s®Condensed
Cream of Mushroom Soup
3/4 cup milk
1/8 tsp. Ground Black Pepper
4 cups cooked cut green beans
(use fresh, frozen or canned green beans)
1 1/3 cups French’s Crispy Fried Onions, divided
FRENCH’S® GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
PREP TIME: 5 MIN. | COOK TIME: 35 MIN.
MIX soup, milk and pepper in a 11/2-quart baking dish. Stir in beans and 2/3 cup Crispy Fried Onions.
BAKE at 350°F for 30 minutes or until hot, Stir.
TOP with remaining 2/3 cup
Onions. Bake 5 minutes or until
Onions are golden brown.

Thank you very much. I might adapt this and report back. 😀

I have never seen a green bean casserole in real life, consequently never ate any, nor would I ever want to. Anything that involves cream soup from a can gets a pass from me and why would you do something like that to perfectly lovely green beans?

Just saute them with slivered almonds and garlic.

Never seen or eaten one?
You’ve lead a charmed life.

Aside from my husband I’ve never had an ‘Anglo’ friends – so never was subjected to a lot of what I consider weird foods. Read about it tho, certainly seen photos…

Nay. Hate the stuff.

YAY! Although I make it with fresh green beans because it tastes so much better. And the boys love it so it’s been at every Thanksgiving since I’ve been divorced. The ex wasn’t a fan, but then again he came from a family that had queso and chips and Mexican rice with the turkey on Thanksgiving 🫤.

It’s so much better with fresh beans.

I’ve never made one. Never will. I like peas with my turkey feast.

It’s one of those quick and easy side dishes that doesn’t cost much to make and uses ingredients that are easy to find year around. So that folks of limited means would be able to bring something to a potluck.

Oh, heck no. Andy made fresh green beans with shiitake mushrooms. Not a bit left over.

Nay. It contained frozen green beans, no one but my M-I-L likes. I grew up on canned veg and my wife prefers that surprisingly.

My Dad’s 2nd wife made it…it’s ok I guess. I like the jolly green giant frozen version.

Geez, once again I’m in the minority, but I don’t care. This is an overwhelming YAY for me! Tara won’t eat it, but that just means more for me to enjoy. What’s not to love?!

If fresh beans are used I can tolerate it, without the soy sauce. I dislike canned veggies in general..

I didn’t add the soy sauce this year. Probably could have used it though.

Would you rather have Spam than green bean casserole? You could mold it into the shape of a turkey.

Or individual green beans. How fun is that?

Tough call. Why do I have to pick only one!!

Oooh! Good point! You could mold Spam into a turkey shape, using green beans as an armature for legs and wings.

Green bean casserole sounded ok, until I heard mention of soya sauce. Might pass, thanks…

I never add soy sauce. Too salty…

Ok, just looked up the recipe and I’m still not sure. Are they the beans that squeak inside your head?

Well, mine don’t. I can’t speak for yours…

Well, if it’s not the beans I need to oil my jaw!

Nay. I don’t like it anyway. Probably because I don’t like onions that much.

I actually like green bean casserole, though we’ve been making a hoity-toitier version (sans Campbells soup) for years. This year, though – our first vegetarian Thanksgiving – believe it or not, we didn’t have it. We didn’t have any beans, come to think of it. Ah well, we were stuffed as it was.

How does one have turkey day without turkey?
Tofurkey…

English Toad in the Hole with surprisingly good faux sausages. The Husband did say that one of the things he misses is turkey leftovers… No one said there wouldn’t be sacrifices. For me it was the meatballs in marinara at the Charleston airport lounge.
