Our local deer herds wax and wane.
Some years we have 3, some years we have 10. Our record is 21.
This year?
.

.
It started with 4…
.

.
And has now gone up to 6.

Sadly we haven’t seen the big beautiful buck from last season.
I hope he’s just moved on and hasn’t fallen to a hunter’s bullet.
😰
.
I do hope the big guy makes it back for a visit.

Beautiful photos. They almost seem domesticated.

I always see photos of people hand feeding deer but ours bolt if they catch sight of us… which is healthier for them in the long run.

You have to cull the deer population. It’s for their own good. Sadly, the deer don’t agree…

I don’t hold with that old argument. Not in Maine…

Your sarcasm detector is a little faulty, today…

Sarcasm is one of the hardest things to read without body language. I often miss it, especially on Word Press.

Bummer about the buck, although with the natural predators gone, the deer population has gone through the roof back east. I think everyone in my family in New York and New Hampshire has hit one.

Between the hunters and predators here, it’s not an issue.

I have a pair of handmade mittens with deerskin palms. The maker used to refer to deerskin as an “all-too-renewable resource” for that reason.

I love your photos. We usually have Mule Deer, but I haven’t seen any behind our back yard. I did see a family with two babies run across the street while driving to the grocery store.

We have four regular visitors. Now that Tara’s garden is done for the winter, they are welcome. Other times of the year, not so much!
