Autumn is right around the bend.

Do I know this because the leaves are turning and the temperatures are dropping? Yes, but there’s also a less subtle sign of fall.

Pumpkin spiced everything. Cereal, coffee, cookies… you name it, they spice it. Even the nuts aren’t safe.

The next two photos were taken by a friend on the island where I spent my teenage years.

Sunsets there are pretty special.

Ours was nice that night, but not nearly as dramatic.

Has anyone ever tried these tricks?

Because I fail to see how ice cubes are going to deodorize a stinky disposal.

In a world where there’s entirely too much hatred and prejudice, Maine is welcoming some new neighbors.

And finally, 61.

I was 61.

  1. Call me a purist, but I keep my pumpkin pie spices in my pumpkin pies. My coffee is coffee-flavored.

As for the tricks, I can pass on one trick with bread. Wonder bread (or any really squishy white bread) was always in my truck when I was a plumber. Sometimes a valve won’t fully close, or there is just enough slope in a pipe that water is constantly dripping. You can’t solder copper at 212 degrees F (the temperature at which that dripping water boils), so you have to stop the water and keep the area dry. A bit of bread (without the crust), smooshed and stuffed into the copper tubing, will hold back the water while you solder. When you turn the water back on, the bread quickly dissolves into the nothing that it was to begin with.

  2. Sigh. Yes, Ice can deodorize, but not by adding lemon fresh scent or Spring Rain Water scent. It does it by removing residual food rot and germs left on the blades. So it deodorizes by removal, not by adding. The absence of stink can be more effective than the presence of a masking aroma. Yes, baking soda WITH the ice is even better, but the baking soda does not have any odor either, so it is not adding, just removing. I do it frequently to my disposal to clean the blades, and yes, sharpen them.

  3. 58 for me on the candy corn!

    The sunset pics are spectacular.

I do ice/lemon/lime in my disposal occasionally. I think the ice is really to clean the blades? Or sharpen and clean? I dunno. Could be BS.

I don’t pour soda into my toilets, as I don’t even pour it down my throat.

I’m waiting to see when Pumpkin Spice shampoo/deodorant starts showing up on shelves.

  4. The pumpkin love in this country is most definitely out of control…and I need help. Pumpkin cold brew and pumpkin muffins have been an almost daily occurance. The candy corn stacking revelation blew my mind!
