Deer me.

.

We have a few nice bucks visiting this fall.

.

.

Sometimes with a companion skunk.

.

.

As long as stinky doesn’t get too close the buck doesn’t seem to mind.

.

.

It’s hunting season so I’m always worried about these guys, even though our property and our neighbors is posted.

.

.

A deer’s home range is usually one square mile and while our neighbor’s properties on both sides are 4 times bigger than ours… that still leaves us about 600 acres short of a safe from bullets zone.

😥

  1. Do you all ever get bears? In NH, the hunting issue appears to be more about hunters using “bear dogs” that get far, far ahead of the hunter and run amok on everyone’s property, while indiscriminately treeing cubs, etc. They also ignore the “no bear dogs” signs posted everywhere. But maybe the practice is too inhumane for Maine.

    1. Bear hunting usually happens farther north. We’re in the mid coast region and while we’ve seen tracks in our backyard in the snow, they’re not commonly found around here. No dogs allowed here thankfully, but baiting is fiercely debated.

  2. We have seen a lot of deer in past years when they wander too far into civilization, but on the other hand there is no hunting in our immediate area, so even with how bad people drive around here they’d rather take their chances with us.😊
