.
Christmas was quiet here at Casa River…
.

.
But it was also gloriously white.
.

.
And may I just give a shout out to whoever invented snow blowers…
.

.
Best winter device, ever.
.

.
Yardstick deployment #2.
🤣
.

.

.

.
And while the husband was out blowing snow?
.

.
I was enjoying a good book, a cup of tea and the annual homemade rosemary shortbread gift from our neighbor. Delicious!
.

.
After clearing the driveway, the husband ran out of creamer so we drove to the grocery store.
.

.
It was a beautiful ride…
.

.
Until we cruised around a corner and clipped a hanging power line.
Smack! Right on my side of the windshield of the husband’s new car.
Thankfully, it… and we … and the car…were okay. But I called the power company to report the danger.
.

.
They got right on it, as we saw on our way home.
.

.
Winter driving is beautiful, but it can be hazardous too.
.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos. Our Christmas wasn’t white, but we have enough on the ground for New Year’s Eve.
Happy New Year!

What a dutiful wife you are 🙂 We got ice, you got all snow? We went from a home with 2 snowblowers to a big John Deere. I don’t mess around though I long for the old days when all I did was just a path and a spot to park my rig now it is over and acre I clear. Happy New Year.

This was our Christmas Eve storm. We got rain and sleet Monday which was a mess…

OH yes my pretty snow now all hard and nasty just waiting to break a bone or two 🙂

Same. The driveway is now a glare of ice.
I hate it.

Very white.
You were very lucky while out driving with regards to the power line.
We are supposedly having snow at some point after the new year. Whether it will happen, I don’t know. I will be very surprised.
Keep warm.

The power line was a shocker. Totally unexpected, whack!

Luckily, not a LITERAL shocker!

What a winter wonderland, it looks positively beautiful. Just like a Christmas card 🤩. Rosemary bread sounds wonderful, I love me some herb bread. Wow your power company is really on the ball, they got there fast. It finally got below freezing here the last couple of days. As you know Christmas got down to a warm 71 degrees here, which was pretty annoying 🙄.

I don’t have two feet of snow to trudge through and clear on the way to my car, but I still find our milder cold weather enough to want to never leave my bed.
It’s beautiful, but at what cost?
And why is your husband the only one out there, paying it?
That snow blower is probably the only thing between your Maine residence and moving to Florida…

Every time I shovel the driveway? He goes right behind me and redoes it. I don’t even try anymore…

Well, maybe if you did it right, he wouldn’t have to!

Powerline…shocker. I’ll bet. Hats off to your “Got this, no sweat” power company. The last time we had that much snow the lights were out for a week and a half in spite of the regiment of assorted equipment staged in the now-famous parking lot across the road.
I was a little surprised that you went to the store in the Audi rather than the Subaru, given its stellar safety rating. You know better than I and either way I’m glad you are home and safe and have an adequate supply of creamer. Happy new year, you’uns.

If we go somewhere together, my husband drives 90% of the time. And if he drives, he wants his car. Whenever we take mine he forgets his sunglasses or some other accessory.
He also has to listen to my music as we follow the my car, my music rule. And he’ll do anything to avoid that.

Beautiful! And an answer to anyone who wonders why we live where there are seasons. With as much pavement (and snow) as you have, I can see the snowblower, and there is a certain beauty in those sharp edges, but I love shoveling snow.

My husband is crazy. He snowblows the driveway, then goes over it again with a shovel to scrape away the excess.

Sometimes necessary. I use two shovels if there is enough snow – one heavy steel to scrape to bare pavement, one light plastic to throw the snow. And a broom for the steps.

Love these beautiful, snowy shots. For sure, driving in the stuff sometimes isn’t quite so lovely. Glad a major crisis was averted. Mrs. B loves using our snow blower, which is just fine with me as I prefer to do the shoveling required. We’re ready if more whiteness makes a return visit here.

I can barely move our snowblower. It’s a big heavy beast…

Be still, my snow-loving heart! That’s spectacular. Haven’t tried to fire up the snow blower since that last fail. We’ve had an inch here, two inches there, basically every day since Sunday, but it’s all very shovel-able.

I much prefer the big, all at once storms. But we’re due for another 2-3 inches today.

Wishing you, hubby, and all the creatures abundant happiness in 2026!!

Wow – you got some incredible shoots. I remember the morning after an ice storm hit Kansas City – ice covered everything – it was beautiful but we didn’t try to go anywhere. You Mainers are tough!

I stick close to home in ice. Thankfully this storm was just snow… but 4 days later we had rain and sleet that froze overnight. I didn’t even go out to feed the birds.

Oh, that’s brutal. I’m so glad your car wasn’t damaged. I hate that first tiny scratch/dent/ding on a new car . . . when perfection becomes marred.

We were afraid it would mar the windshield or bounce off the hood and dent it… but for once luck was on our side.

Dare I say he was enjoying himself out there, working that snowblower and yardstick?
Running into a power line is right up there with the scary stuff!

He takes great satisfaction in being the first on our road to have a perfectly cleared driveway, yes.

This brought tears to my eyes. I so miss snow, especially around Christmas. Was just thinking the other day, my kids have no idea what snow ice cream is. Oh I miss snow!!!

Sorry for the tears. But I understand… we lived down south for 17 years and I missed it too!
