For the birds.

.

Every once in a while we have a strange bird drop by the feeders.

.

.

We’re not near the beach, though our property does back up on a large river.

.

.

But this wayward traveler spotted the woodchuck buffet and decided to munch.

.

.

You really don’t want to encourage a seagull.

.

.

Before long one will become twelve and your backyard will resemble a landfill, with a dozen squawking birds fighting (and pooping) everywhere.

So after a few quick pics for blogging purposes, I went outside and shoo’d him off.

.

.

Or so I thought.

Because when I turned around to go inside…

.

.

He’d taken up a recon position.

.

.

Seagulls don’t play.

😳

  1. As much as I like every bird, I do agree with not encouraging the seagull. Because my experience when I was last down at a beach when it came to a seagull wasn’t a very good experience.

      1. Yes. I had the same experience. I hadn’t even managed to take a bite of my sandwich and the other went on the floor, along with my hot drink.

  2. My wife was amazed to see a seagull when we moved here, 1000 miles from the nearest ocean, so I took her to the dump for birdwatching.

I discovered one more damaged item from our baseball-sized hail. The louvers at the end of the duct from our bathroom exhaust fan were damaged. A bird family moved in this weekend.

  3. They don’t seem like they are wanted anywhere. Thank goodness I don’t live anywhere they would be. but I have so many blackbirds and pigeons. They are the bane of my existence, pigeons and seagulls, they are related I believe. In the “most annoying bird” category.

      1. Gulls don’t scare easy. What was all that Jonathan Livingston Seagull book and movie stuff when I was young? It was a nice story, but no gulls have a higher purpose or empathy for others in life. My husband calls them rats with wings.

  4. We are not near the shore either, but there are lots of gulls around the river. Fortunately, they haven’t migrated up here. Although, I have seen them outside the fast food places near the airport.
