.
The day after surgery found me extremely tired with a leg so swollen it felt like it wanted to burst.
.

.
Tight, stiff and with the compression stocking? It feels like a giant sausage in a too small casing. The inside of my calf is still numb so I guess the nerve block hasn’t worn off yet. Thankfully there’s no real pain, just discomfort. I’m sure the pain will hit soon, and I can’t say I’m looking forward to it.
.

.
Our daughter of the heart sent flowers so that made me smile. Not much else does right now. I caught a few hours of sleep but not enough to feel rested. I have to use the walker for every step and lying around on the couch all day is already getting old.
I’ll have home health PT for the first two weeks and they visited yesterday to assess our house and how well I’m getting around. Had to prove I can get in and out of bed and use the toilet without help, which thankfully I can.
The husband is being a good nurse, running and fetching and making sure I don’t fall.
This isn’t going to be fun and it’s just getting started… so I’ll try not to bitch too much.
🥴

What a beautiful bouquet! Love the fuschia one 🌺

I should have surgery more often.
The flowers keep coming…

I hope the pain is milder than you’re expecting. I know you have a lot of work ahead. I always equate PT with pain, but they’ve always helped. How’s Dudley dealing with this?

Not well. He’s still giving me a wide berth and is terrified of the walker.
He’s also being fed by the husband, which means less treats.
I expect a revolt any day now….

I visited my brother shortly after he fell this past spring. I took over the routine household duties (he lives alone) including feeding the cat. I did a miserable job, according to the cat.

They are definitely creatures of habit. Upset their schedule and there will be repercussions.

I threw away my compression stockings the other day. They were a bear to get on and I had a whole soundtrack going for them. I thought about home health PT and they were going to send a person to me but in the end, I just stayed home another week and then week to PT nearby. I was worried about the little black pug taking over my session time!
Find a couple of good books, dreams to continue, a few good shows. I even wrote about them this past week home renovation shows my husband watches and got me to watch. I also brought my password book up to date and made phone calls to family I had not spoken to in 6 months. It is amazing the things you can think of doing but then again I grew up in the middle of the Catskills, so I had to be inventive. Take care of yourself!

I was told to wear the compression stocking for three days on my surgical leg so that’s what I’ll do. Won’t be sorry to see it go.
And yes, I’ve been doing some serious reading.

I even took a book down about Middle Eastern history that I bought while I was studying linguistics and wrote about it for my thesis and then I thought ‘naw, I am good.’ Went to the library sale. Leaner with books. The husband did get a little worried when I started looking around to make us even lighter.

I love a good clean out.
Looking forward to doing one when I have a good knee under me again.

You can complain here. You’ve earned it. There’s nothing like a real-time narrative – not only for us, but for you to look back on. And I see you have the idiot-proof sock, with grippies on both sides. 😉

It’s funny, I swore I’d never wear those stupid ugly things… but they’re a lifesaver right now when I’m wobbling.
Fashion has to take a back seat.

Oh do bitch away – it’s a helluva inconvenience to say the very least – and it will make you laugh – at least whinging and whining always makes me laugh at myself – I don’t know how much it amuses anyone else, people tend to be kind, bless them. My husband had home p/t several times (unfortunately) but they were always really good guys and we enjoyed their company and their help. And it was certainly easier than bundling him into an Uber XL and maneuvering him around a facility.

I wasn’t sure if I’d like home visits, but honestly I’m in no shape to go out yet so they’ve been helpful.
And thanks for the go ahead to bitch.

I didn’t like the compression stockings either – as soon I could I ditched them! But your color looks good and the pain will probably hold off until PT!

PT starts in two weeks. Bring pain free that long would be wonderful…

I bitched for more than 7 months, so feel free to bitch away!

Ha!
Hopefully it won’t be that long a rant.
But thanks.

Bitch as much as you feel!
I didn’t get compression stockings. I was supposed to have home PT but I was driving before the referral came through – and there was nowhere to do it anyway. Imagine everything you’re experiencing – but solo with a zillion cats that need food/water!
Ongoing good juju to you!!

Nope.
I can’t begin to imagine that.
You’re a much stronger person!

The cats forced me to get up and work my muscles. Without them, I probably would not have moved at all.

Sending so much healing energy your way, Rivergirl! That description of your compression stocking feeling like a casing on a giant sausage had me laughing out loud—fashion definitely takes a back seat when we’re in recovery mode! Glad your husband is taking such great care of you, even if Dudley is plotting a treat revolt over the walker. I loved reading halffastcyclingclub’s comment about the grippy socks. 😊

I say, bitch all you want! If you can’t whine and pout on your own blog, what’s the point of even blogging in the first place?
Oh. Right. To share news we can’t use. 🙂

I recognize the hospital no-slip socks. After the Husband’s health ordeal last winter/spring, I think he has a pair in every color of the rainbow.
So what would happen if you couldn’t prove to them you could do those tasks? Could they force you to stay in a rehab facility or something?

No, they probably would have recommended I buy a toilet seat lift and sleep in a different bed. Ours is really high.
And the socks aren’t sexy, but man. They’re definitely helpful when you’re unsteady on your feet.

Sigh. You have a long road ahead of you, but it’s a ‘must-travel road’ to reach the point where you can live your life again without pain.
Love the sweet flowers!!

Can’t say that I recommend it though…
