Out of the mouths of babes.

.

The husband and I went to Portland the other day and as we were walking along Commercial Street in the Old Port, I suggested we go see his face.

.

.

This requires explanation, I know.

.

.

As a Christmas surprise for my favorite hero, I purchased a spot on the wall in his honor in 2009.

.

.

I chose his boot camp graduation photo… and as the years go by we always get a kick out of seeing his innocent baby face.

19 years old and sent to war.

Returning safely, but forever changed.

As we stood there looking at the wall, two young women with a large group of children stopped as well. They said hello… and started telling the children what the wall was for, whose faces were engraved and why it’s important to recognize veterans and their sacrifices.

One of the women looked over at my husband, saw his Marine Corps hat and thanked him for his service. The children all glanced over, heard my husband say thank you and tell the woman that he was actually on the wall they had come to see.

As he pointed out his picture the kind woman said, “You look exactly the same!” … which tickled us both as a sweet and ridiculous statement, but it what was one of the little girls said that made both of us choke up.

She looked at the picture on the wall, looked at my husband and said,”Mom… he’s a real live hero.”

❤️

She’s right of course.

He’s my real live hero, and always will be.

Maine military museum part three.

.

Put a Marine and a sailor together at a military museum and there are going to be some serious disagreements.

.

.

But they’re friends, so it’s all good.

As was the collection of pins from the Vietnam era.

Kill a Commie for Christ is probably not what Jesus had in mind.

My husband’s father was a SeaBee, though in an earlier war. Looking at their mascot made me wish I had a few more arms. Dinner prep would be so much easier.

.

.

As I said before, all the items in this museum are donated. Though why someone wanted them to have dirty underwear and a partial denture I’m sure I don’t know.

This uniform parade was a little creepy, especially the headless model.

That’s an exact replica of a cell at the Hanoi Hilton, right down to the inch.

And the rats and bugs.

Impressive roof patterning. wish I could talk the husband into doing that on ours.

Our friend, pointing out his photo from his time in Bosnia.

Weekly Dudley post.

.

Yes, this might be a thing for a while.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten has discovered my computer… and in typical cat fashion must get in between me and it whenever I attempt usage.

.

.

And as you can see by his level of relaxation….

.

.

He has finally decided we are fit to live with and worthy enough to wait on him hand and foot.

His highness is not overly thrilled with being picked up and cuddled…

But realizes the daily allotment of weed is dependent upon keeping the humans amused.

.

.

Why is it every time you try to video a cat playing with toys they stop dead and stare at you?

What a deal!

As many of you know, we have a timeshare.

And no, I don’t want to sell it it you.

But timeshares aren’t what they used to be, and we aren’t stuck with just one week in Boca for the rest of our lives.

We travel when we want, where we want, for as long as we want and we’re loving it. When we no longer love it, we’ll give it to someone else so they can love it too.

Last year when we were vacationing in the Berkshires, we ran into a veteran and his wife at our resort in the mountains. Naturally, the men spotted each other’s Marine Corps hats and began an hour long conversation detailing where they were stationed and when. Fascinating as that was, I struck up a conversation with the wife and asked how she liked the condo. She said she loved it and you couldn’t beat the deals they get with AFVC.  ( Armed Forces Vacation Club )  7 nights in a 1 bedroom unit for $349.  (Turns out I could beat it with our timeshare last call program, 7 nights in a bigger 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit for $299… but I kept that to myself.)

But the idea intrigued me, so when we got home I joined. For free.

It’s open to:

Not usually…
But this time, yes.
AFVC constantly sends me emails with promotions and so called deals.
Like this recent one:

Am I reading this correctly?
I’ll pay $349 for the normal 7 night stay….
But only stay 2 or 3 nights?

In what universe is that considered a deal?
Get half as much, but pay the same price.
I may not be the brightest bulb in the pack, but even I’ll pass on that one.
