Dear Pennsylvania,
It was with great sadness that I read the recent news reports from your state. I can only imagine the confusion, the shock, and yes… the absolute horror that this announcement brought.
If there’s anything I can do to help your devastated citizens who will struggle during this time of crisis, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Yours most sincerely,
River
No. I didn’t send that letter…. but I should.
I should, because I just discovered this:
Pennsylvania closes all state liquor stores indefinitely
All Pennsylvania state liquor stores and licensee service centers will close indefinitely tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board announced.
“This was a tremendously difficult decision to make, and we understand the disruption our store closures will have on consumers and licensees across the commonwealth,” Board Chairman Tim Holden said in a statement.
Holden continued:
“But in these uncertain and unprecedented times, the public health crisis and mitigation effort must take priority over the sale of wine and spirits, as the health and safety of our employees and communities is paramount.”
The liquor control board handles all beverage alcohol distribution in Pennsylvania, operating nearly 600 wine and spirits stores statewide. It licenses 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers, and handlers, according to the statement.

Pennsylvania?
You have my deepest sympathies.
Well, you know how friendly people can get after a couple of drinks …

True. But it’s still an extreme solution…

Well, are they prepared for people to go into detox and fill hospital beds? Those are the worst patients too–lots of monitoring, huge fall risks, and they usually have strong personalities that make your day worse. It’s the second and third order effects the government might not be considering!

See? There’s a medical reason this is a bad plan…

NY considers then essential. But I added a few bottles of wine just in case that changes.

Ouch. I wonder what it looked like at those stores between the published announcement and the actual closure. “Pandemonium” probably doesn’t even come close to describing it.

It’s Prohibition all over again. We got the 20’s in January. The 30’s in March. What’s coming in May???????

Well, that’s it, I’m moving out of Pennsylvania post-haste and never going back, even though I have lived in California for all of my 52 years, except one month in Pittsburgh when I was 12.

Someone posted a video of our governor saying he was going to close the liquor stores the next day. I sent the video to hubby and then quickly left the room when he opened it. As I stood in the kitchen I hear, “I hate you!” I’d Rickrolled him. 😂

I grew there. I hope that means Beer Distributors are allowed to stay open (they are independently owned). I was in Pittsburgh, about an hour from West Virginia and/or Ohio.

I don’t know…. but the thought of being beerless is equally as disturbing.

I’m sure that won’t happen.

Better hope more states don’t follow suit or it will truly be the beginning of the apocalypse.

I read the other day that in some places, alcohol and tobacco will not be sold. I was all oh wow, the domestic violence…
Alcohol weakens the immune system, but umm, even immuno-compromised me enjoys a cocktail! Oof. Poor Pennsylvania
