.
I fear for our old, always pregnant, doe.
She had a very late fawn this year and I think it’s taken it’s toll.
.
.
We’ve watch her age and slow down over the past few years, but now?
.
.
The poor girl is skeletal.
.
.
She comes every night for grain and apples, and is now showing up during the day for lunch…. which yes, I provide. She literally just stands there, looking in the window and waiting to be served. How can I not?
.
.
But I think this last Bambi was just too much for her, and I doubt she’ll survive the winter.
.
.
Hopefully blue eyes will continue us to visit after she’s gone.
Life goes on….
.
You could go to feed store and get a high protein high calorie food… maybe it will help her before winter hits hard… 😭😭😭😭

It’s hard to watch. I know she won’t make it through another winter….

As far as nature is concerned, she’s done a great job…

She has. But it’s hard to watch the steady decline….

It’s like before birth control where a woman would just have kids until it killed her. Then, the man would marry a younger woman and it would start all over again.

Am I to infer your decline is not as graceful as you’d once hoped?

It’s like a train wreck only with fewer dead and injured porters…

That’s so sad 😞. I’m so glad she has you. And what a beautiful Mother she is to her baby. Just like a Momma she’ll stay strong and wise until she just can’t anymore.

It is sad. I know white tailed deer don’t live long in the wild…. 5-6 years is normal… but we’ve gotten attached to this one.

Aww, I hope that she survives through the winter, I can always hope.

Maine winters are tough on wildlife, you have to be strong to survive them.

We have an older doe around here too…….her single fawn is so much smaller than the twins of two of the younger does.

This one’s fawn is smaller, but only because it was born later. I’m hoping the little guy fattens up quickly.

That’s what we said last year, and she did. But this time around? I really doubt it.

Do they make chastity belts in “deer” size?

I hope so, but it’s not looking good.

Poor thing. At least she has a good steady source of food

She does that. And a nice variety as well.
