.
The beautiful stray cat we fell in love with and gave a home?
.

.
Has been returned to his rightful owners.
.

.
I think you can guess that wasn’t my choice…. but when you receive a call from the local police department, there really isn’t any way to avoid it.
Apparently his people had been frantically searching for him but aren’t active on social media and didn’t see my original posts about finding him. A friend of theirs alerted a lost animal site…
.

.
And there really was no doubt.
.

.
After the police gave me their phone number, I found this on my FB messenger.
.

.
Damn.
.

.
They live right up the road from us.
The guilt was strong, because I really wanted to keep him.
.

.
But look, he has a twin brother.
.

.
Double damn. There were worried children.
I had to call.
So I called.
They came, they thanked us profusely, they took their beautiful kitty, and yes…. I cried.
Now the house seems emptier than ever.
.
You did a good thing.
Now go adopt a cat who needs a home. ❤️

I know it was the right thing. My head knows that…. my heart just hasn’t caught up yet.

I agree with the above poster. We lost one of our boxers for five or six months and finally someone brought her back. She was thrilled to see her mom (real mother).

You’re right, and logically I know that. Emotionally is another story.

Aww, that’s a good ending but sad for you. I think you should adopt a cat too. Or a dog…

I’d love to. But the husband didn’t even want this one….

Methinks it’s time to get a cat.

Methinks that as well. Now please convince my husband.

Look at the bright side. The bar is open. You have pretty new chairs. You made small children happy. You can console/reward yourself with and adult beverage. There are more cats. And when you get one that one will probably wander back. And then you will have three cats. Add 452 more cats and you will be a crazy cat lady. Stop have an adult beverage and ignore the line with 452. Said the person with more than 452 daylilies. Now I need to go have an adult berverage… ( misspelling intentionally left in for er poetic effect ) right after I finish this morning coffee.

Well, that made me laugh. So thank you. And while 452 might strain my husband’s patience, I rather like the idea.
Cheers!

Get 2 kittens–one for the new ‘bar’ and one for the ‘old’ house–double the love!

Sounds good to me!

You might think about asking Dumpling’s owner if you could have first dibs on any kittens he might father. You could then post a kitten-naming contest, with first prize being the winner’s choice of a virtual kiss from you, or a photo of hubby kissing the kitten.

I was told Dumpling has an appointment to render future kittens impossible.

My sympathies, but you did the right thing for your kitty friend. And now perhaps you can find your own Dumpling?

I do love me some dumplings….

Aww River, your such a good person, you and the hubs. He seemed just as taken with Dumpling as you were. I’m glad he was taken care of by the both of you, I’m sure his owners really appreciate the love and attention you gave.

The jury is still out on the owners. I’ve since discovered where they live…

Just convince your husband you’ll be better off with a bar cat. Then convince him that the bar cat would be better off in the house when that’s where the humans are.

A bar cat. Hmm…

Just get another cat. Your husband will warm up to the idea eventually. He did with Dumpling.

I’ve been hinting.

I’m trying to tell myself he’ll be better off but we spoil our pets rotten so I know that’s a lie.

I know, you did the right thing, but that had to be hard. He was a cutie. I’m sorry for you.

It was amazing how quickly I became attached.

It doesn’t take long for us to fall in love.
One thought: Volunteer as pet sitters for your little buddy (and other pets too?) so you have sometimes pets but still have the freedom to travel.

While that sounds like a wonderful idea, I’d still want to take them all home with me.

I could never volunteer at a pet shelter . . . I would want to adopt them all. Not sure about pet sitting. I think I could do that, knowing that we’d enjoy our little buddies a few times a year.

Cats can keep bugs and vermin away. Maybe that will help convince your husband.

Ahh. So it was the kids who were feral and the feline was trying to escape them. He would have rathered stay with you methinks.

I think he would have, yes. But it wasn’t meant to be….

Crap. Now I’m heartbroken, too. I think you could turn this into a win-win, though: Cat and family have joyful reunion/Petless couple gives loving home to a new cat in need after selflessly surrendering lost cat back to its human family.

I’m working on it. And by it… I mean him.

I understand heartbroken, and bittersweet.
Perhaps you should seek a new fluffikins to help fill the kitty shaped hole in your heart. ❤

I want to. The husband is a harder sell..

My husband too. However, you should see him with our youngest cat. The one he really did not want. They’re gaga for one another, heart-melting affections.

That’s the weird thing, my husband adores animals. When we lost our last old boy he wept.

So sorry, I know that must hurt. He’s a beautiful kitty. Go visit your local Humane Society!
