Heart attack in a jar.

.

I found these on the grocery store shelf a while back….

.

.

And I swear my arteries hardened just walking by.

.

.

After posting this on Facebook, I was assured by numerous people duck fat is a perfectly delicious way to cook potatoes. And while that may be true, I’m still passing on that giant jar of pork lard.

  1. I like to make up a batch of individual meat pies from time to time, and beef tallow makes a for “meaty” pastry shell. The tallow will take higher temps than Crisco and so you get a really great color without burning.

  2. Lard is an essential part of the kitchen of you Hispanic/Mexican American. And it makes things taste so much better, in spite of the health concerns, it should be used in moderation. Duck fat is AWESOME to deep fry potatoes! I didn’t think I’d like it because I feared it would make any food taste gamey. But, I was pleasant surprised to find it gives it a great taste and it makes them ever so crispy too.

      1. That’s because you believed the lies we were told about animal fat. And there are doctors that are still peddling this lie because it makes them money to keep people sick. Animal fats are good for you. They keep your brain healthy, they keep your hormones functioning properly, they help with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins, and it helps you stay full longer so you don’t eat as much.

      2. This is capitalism, they’d charge for air if they could. Indeed, maybe that is why they’re allowing all the deforestation and destruction of oceans. Every human on earth would be coughing up to buy some…. But, yeah, my mother was only talking about how they used to keep lard the other day.

    1. What about pollution and chemicals that aren’t biodegradable? There’s a lot of old people who were worried and stressed by the atrocities of war that survived to a ripe old age. We’re a bit lily-livered these days. (I had to say lily-livered – I just love that expression, and my mind expresses it in a western-movie drawl)

      1. I am happy to hear your husband survived, or the barn would still be just a barn. But I cannot get past the fact the medical industry is not telling women what women need to know. Is there some kind of profit in it for them, or is it they just don’t really care about half the population of the world?

      2. By the way, would you consider reblogging this post, or doing one on of your own, in your own words? I seriously believe the word needs to be spread, and my blogs are not going to accomplish that.

      3. Anywhere is better than none. But I understand. On my spiritual atheism blog, I did not reblog either, which is one reason why I now have three blogs. But the newst is just starting out. I have less than 10 readers, some of whom don’t even have blogs.
But I try, because I care.
In a way I should not even have written that post, I have no medical experience. But I did some research, and found Suze’s words mighty close to what doctors do say. But they don’t say it where it helps others. It is in my personality to try my best, but I need help.

      4. I posted it on my spouse’s Facebook account, and sent it directly to some female members of my family and also a few very good friends. That is the extent of my knowledge of social media.
You make a good point, saq, but I have no idea of how to use all those other platforms, or whatever they are called. Word Press is the extent of my foray into social media. I’ve been on it now for 4 years, and I barely know how to use it properly. Spelchek alone makes me feel like a know-nothing because my comments look proper when I write then, but then when I publish them try change into a nightmare when I see them in print. (See that word try back there, I did not type that, but yet there it is. I typed they, but Spelchek didn’t like that word for some reason. I left that one in just because. The rest I had to recorrect their corrections!)
Anyways, saq, I am too old to start trying to learn all those other things. It takes me all I have just to do Word Press.

      5. Tags?. My WP doesn’t let me do many tags. No idea what I do wrong but sometimes the tag section doesn’t show up at all, and other times I add one or two tags and it disappears. What am I doing wrong? No idea.

  3. I basically ate a jar of pork lard tonight in the form of pork crackle and pork belly. Not feeling too good right about now but man, it was good while I was eating it.
