If you’re a history nerd like me, you’ll love exploring this fort.
.

.
And even if you’re not, like my husband? It’s still a pretty cool place.
.

.
Did my knee enjoy the spiral stone staircases? It did not, but I lived to tell the tale.
.

.
Is it wrong the first thing I thought when I reached the top was… how do they get the lawn mowers up here?
.

.
The views are lovely..
.

.
And there’s the bridge we visited earlier in the day.
.

.
And if you’re looking for proof this was an amazing place? There’s my husband taking pictures.
.

.
My husband never takes pictures.
.

.
It’s a good thing there was an ambulance because I almost fainted from shock.
.
How do they get the mowers up there? Did you ask a docent? I love asking questions like that . . . 😀

It was off season and only self guided tours. The girl taking tickets was clueless.

It does look like a cool place. Well kept even the upper floor lawns.

I’m sure the ambulance would have gotten you to the hospital in a mere week or two. I’m shocked that the hubs was taking pictures too.

You may have been surprised that husband was taking pictures, but I’m surprised that he wasn’t using an antique camera. 😀

I don’t think he owns one, which is even more surprising….

You would be surprised at how many of these U.S. Forts never actually fired a shot in anger.

That is one unconventional ambulance. I wouldn’t mind mowing the “upper deck” there, even if I had to use hand clippers. The great views would be more than worth it.

Maybe they lead a herd of goats up the spiral staircase every month or so?

I think that would be easier actually….
