Plywood and insulation are showing up at our house on a daily basis.
.

.
Have you priced plywood and insulation lately? It’s enough to make Bob Villa hang up his hammer.
.

.
But the husband is still determined to install a ceiling and insulate a room that has no heat because he’s bored in retirement.
.

.
I can see no reason for this project.

Nor any rhyme to his framing technique. What the…. what?
But he’s downstairs all day, every day covering everything in sawdust and making a racket and a mess in the one section of basement that was previously neat and organized. (Read – mine.)
While the rest of the cellar (read – his) still looks like this:
.

.
It’s all about priorities.
🥴
.
Maybe he can put a big screen TV with surround around on the far wall, a huge recliner, put a door on the opening, and hang a sign that says, “Girls have cooties, not allowed past this point”?

I believe that’s why we spent $20,000 redoing the first floor of the barn.

That abstract framing reminds me of the Three Stooges episode where they had to build a house from scratch. Definitely more Curly Howard than Bob Vila…

I try not to go down there very often. If I shake my head any harder it might fall off.

Mr. Vila might take a no comment pass on this one.

And who could blame him?

I see he’s channeling his inner Tim The Tool Man Taylor on this by his framing technique. Has he thought of maybe a part time job at Lowe’s or Home Depot? Just saying it could keep you from going crazy…lol.

You want him to advise the public on building and DIY techniques? Do you really hate people that much….
🤣

No, they could have him use the forklift or hand pallet jack to move stuff back and forth. You know, like when you point a laser at a cat, to distract it for a while, lol.

Yeah, I don’t think that will work.

… insulating the basement walls and ceiling is a good thing for your part of the world and will lower your heating bill fractionally. Perhaps the creative “framing” is just to hold the panels on while the glue sets?

I don’t see how it’s saving heat. There’s no heat down there to begin with…
As fur the framing, I believe it’s what holding the panels in place. No glue required. But I get nasty looks if I ask questions and interfere, so who knows.

Someday, after he is finished, you will see with new eyes, and give purpose to this new room. Maybe a play room for Lord Dudley? But I am betting you will find a use, even if it is a place to hide his murdered body.

This is MY section of the basement. Used for storing my tubs of Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations. That’s all I need.

It might not be, anymore

That’s what I’m afraid of. He has 1,750 square feet, I have 250.
Or used to.

Looks like a Procrastination Project – finish one part of the basement so you don’t have to deal with the other part of the basement. I love it!
On the plus side… increase in home value?

Doubtful. But a definite negative balance in the checkbook. $1,000 and counting…

Sounds more like he’s board in retirement.

He’s cracking me up with this project! (sorry, at your expense) And that framing job? I hope he’s not looking for another career.

Thankfully no. I’m still amazed he built such a nice barn… and that it hasn’t fallen down.
