.
As I was reading in the living room the other day, Lord Dudley Mountcatten went running to the window.
.

.
It seems we had a visitor on the deck railing.
.

.
A Sharp Shinned Hawk.
.

.
He’s a beauty and hunts our backyard quite often.
.

.
Though sadly never when Momma Red is scurrying around.

I’m amazed you able to get so close to the hawk. We have about a dozen who fly around nightly but they’re fairly shy.

He happily sat on the railing for 10 minutes or so. Of course, I was inside.. he was out. Doubt I could do that if we were on the same side.

Mommw Red has sharp eyes too. When she sees hawk wings flying overhead she heads for safety. She has not survived this long without being cautious. The more you tell us about her, the more she earns our respect.
The hawk is beautiful, isn’t he (or she). Those eyes are intensely waiting for food to appear. I s7spect something died that day.

She lost my respect when she chewed her way into our horse without an invite.

Ha!
Stupid spellcheck.
That’s not to say she couldn’t though…

I love squirrels, but if you get them in your lift here… oh dear, the trauma never ends. Even the pest removal people give no guarantees on squirrels. Possibly put a fox up there?

We have visiting foxes. Apparently they’re not hungry enough.

Maybe they’ve read Beatrix Potter and they realise they are doomed to failure

Sharp Shinned Hawk is a new (and beautiful) one on me. Is there a blunt forelegged variety for comparison purposes?

The Coopers Hawk is very similar.

Ah, heard of that one 😊

Maybe the hawk was resting after already having a meal of skwerl.

If so, it wasn’t the one I wanted. I saw her shortly after he left….

Awww, drats for you – yay for skwerls!

Well if you don’t see Momma red around anymore, you know why, lol.

Hawks are found in certain areas around us, but none (yet?) have landed in our parts. Nice you got to enjoy them close-up!

They’re gorgeous creatures.

I always thought my mom had eyes in the back of her head whenever I was getting into mischief. But she’s got nothing on the hawk.

My mother engaged a crossing guard spy. And I got in trouble every time I went under the bridge I wasn’t supposed to…
