.
Remember the perennials I bought for the stone bordered garden bed out back?
.

.
There was a big beautiful purple and white lupine ready to go.
.

.
They’re iconic in Maine and I’ve always loved them.
.

.
But apparently so did the woodchucks.
.

.
Goodbye bloom.
Goodbye leaves.
.

.
This is what’s left of the lupine and what used to be a lovely pink phlox.
Grrr….
😡
.
Meh.

Okay it’s more than momma squirrel being a pest now. Its not bad enough that the two chuckers are FAF, they are also gluttons? Ugh….

It’s always a battle. Some things they eat, others they don’t.

I hope you are planting them anyway. The plant and roots will still be alive, and should grow new flowers again in a while, should they not?

I’m going to give them a little time to reestablish in their pots then plant them.

Brutal. And after all that food you leave out for everyone? Rude, too.

Dick stopped by again the other day and I asked him about a mysterious pile of dirt next to the house. We’d assumed it was for a planting project he never got around to, but nope.
“Woodchuck,” he said.
Which immediately made me think of you. I’ve never seen a woodchuck before and didn’t know Wisconsin had any.

My advice is to make friends. They’ll still eat some of your flowers but not all…
