I don’t envy that town’s Chamber of Commerce. Spinning cannibal crickets to the tourist trade has got to be tough.

      1. I find that sad. It has been my life’s work to learn how to be a better person. I am still learning, today and everyday.
My philosophy of life goes something like this: We don’t know if life matters. We won’t find out until we die. If we cease to exist, as many think, it does not matter. But if life goes on somehow, by the time we find out for sure, it is too late to do anything about it. Not being religious in any way, I still believe life has purpise and meaning. If I am wrong, big deal. But if I am right, I want to move on being the best person I can be. It is the least I can do, and it costs me nothing either way.
I do not believe in heaVen or hell, but I do believe in spiritual reincarnation. If I can help create a better future for life, I am on board with that!

    1. Like you, I don’t believe in heaven or hell….and as for “spiritual reincarnation,” I want to believe in it, but it either exists or doesn’t exist regardless of what we believe, so is it any more than wishful thinking? I ask that, not to disparage your thinking or beliefs (that’s the last thing I want to convey to someone I respect), but simply to suggest that belief in an afterlife of any kind gets us nowhere, in and of itself..

      1. I am going on 2 NDEs I had under the influence of LSD, so everyone tells me I am crazy. Maybe I am. But I had the two almost perfectly similar experiences about 10 days apart, and both times I was offered a return to this life, or a new life. So to say I “believe” in spiritual reincarnation is not really true, for me. I cannot disbelieve. But neither am I asking anyone else to believe. This was a very personal experience, and it completely changed my life. I ecperienced no “god” by human standards of what a god might be. What I experienced was Life in a way that is impossible to experience on Earth. So, as far as I am concerned, my bet of life going on after death is a sure thing. But I am still willing to concede what you said above, “it either exists, or it doesn’t exist.” Like I said to River, but in different words, some kind of life after death is a 50/50 proposition. And we have no choice but to believe if we survive death. If we don’t survive death, we will never know.
So, yes it is a suggestion — to everyone else. As reminded every time this topic comes up on a different blog, I have no proof! But the memories of these experiences are vivid, and confiming, for me. What they are to anyone else is up to them, and whether they want to believe or disbelieve. It doesn’t and won’t change the outcome one bit.
