Maine is a coastal state and has a rich fishing heritage. Lobsters are our mainstay but we also harvest scallops, crabs, oysters and numerous deep sea fish.
The men who work the ocean are a hardy bunch. Strong, stoic, and weatherbeaten. They also have a quirky sense of humor.
So when a local apparel outfitter started a big catch contest giveaway and asked fishermen to submit pictures, you know it was going to get interesting.
Here are a few of my favorite entries.

Well what can I say? Maine fishermen definitely have a sense of humor, lol. Those are some giant scallops, and I’m actually talking about the scallops not the last picture!

I may come off kinda dumb, but I have got to know: Is that dude in the last pic sprawling on a pile of burgers? I’ve heard that Maine is a good place to fish for trout, which is much more my speed. I also like burgers, just not with naked men on them. OK they’re scallops; I guess his shower won’t take any longer than normal.

I’m curious why all the fishermen wear orange. Is that to make them easier to rescue should they fall overboard?

Yes. The waterproof rubber jackets and pants are usually yellow or orange so they’re easily spotted by rescuers…
