We have snow, then rain and ice and more rain.
Our lawn is white, our lawn is green.
The poor deer never know what they’re waking up to these days.
.

.
So we put out a few bowls of grain for our resident herd.

.
Placement is key.
.

.
Put the bowls too close together like my husband did and the buck will kick you out of the way.

Before he settles in for a nosh.

And, I just got my air conditioner serviced… I can’t wait to retire to Maine…

I’ll take snow over oppressive heat any day.

Even better (?) when you can have both! Around here it can range from -30 to +105 (and I’ve ridden my bike in both). When it’s cold, moving keeps you warm. When it’s hot, the breeze you create keeps you cool.

I lived down south for 18 years but I straight up can not tolerate high heat anymore. I simply wilt…

Around here, deer expect to be shot at, so they don’t hang out quite so casually. I remember being shocked when I moved to California and deer were visible a for more than their white tails disappearing in the woods.

There’s plenty of hunting in the state of Maine. Way too much for my taste, but these guys know our property is safe.

There’s a long, fairly busy road between our house and the nearest place an animal the size of a deer could find good enough cover to make a bed. Birds are good, I shot (a pic) of a pileated woodpecker the other day, I’ll find it in my pics and post it up. Cathy’s really envious of this. She’s got a degree in wildlife management and totally wants to go stomping around in those woods. I don’t blame her, that’s a beautiful place.

We’ve lived here 21 years… and honestly, it never gets old.

You are good to put out a little something-something for the deer. Even though they annoy me by eating my pretty flowers, they are beautiful animals.

Thankfully ours are satisfied with their treat and leave my flowers alone…

He’s awful. Only a few of the little ones are allowed to eat next to him…

Living in the country has its drawbacks, but I’ll gladly pay them.
