Along with all our other wild visitors we have raccoons, but since they arrive at night I’m rarely able to photograph them.
.

.
Until the other evening when a pair showed up before sunset.
.

.
They really are characters.
.

.
Such expressive faces…
.

.
And those dexterous little paws!
.
.
These little fatties shimmy right up the center pole, knock the suet cages to the ground then empty them at their leisure. Those paws can open anything.
.

.
I was hoping they’d do it while I was filming but no such luck. Seeing their big butts hanging upside down eating the orioles grape jelly is a riot.

Word has spread far and wide about River’s Buffet. Pretty soon you will have ostriches, gazelles and snow leopards in your backyard…

Now that would be blog worthy.

They are fun to watch. Keep it up, you might get some bunnies at some point.

I know people have them up north, but no sightings here yet.

Always enjoy watching the wildlife! Our raccoons are pretty bold–they went nose-to-nose through the window with our 90 pound Dane/ lab mix. On the other hand, our 13 pound Bossy Cat chases and trees them, so maybe some of them are not so bold.

Ours are timid. But then we have a large expanse of open back lawn before they can reach the woods …

We allegedly have raccoons around, but I have yet to ever see one in our yard. Maybe that’s a good thing considering the trouble I’ve had just keeping squirrels away from the bird feeders.

It’s rare to see ours when it’s still light. They’re nocturnal critters.
And stop fighting the squirrels. Just give them a peanut feeder and/or a corn cob feeder and embrace the backyard wildlife.

They get enough of the seed that spills out of our multiple feeders!

Because you don’t give them peanuts and corn….

Unpopular opinion, I love raccoons. I know they’re little bandits, but what’s so bad about that? 😅 These guys have not missed a meal!

I love them too. We’ve never had any trouble with ours. And really, they like Oreos. How bad can they be…
