Interspecies meeting.

.

We have visiting raccoons in the backyard.

The raccoons attempt to drink from our birdbath but can’t always stretch far enough to make that work.

So along with their food, I put out a pan of water last night.

.

.

To which the raccoon didn’t pay the slightest bit of attention.

.

.

At one point he practically sat in it, but wouldn’t drink.

.

.

Enter a baby woodchuck.

.

.

The raccoon is three times as big, but was terrified of the little chucker.

.

.

And when baby made a mad dash for food, the raccoon startled… banging into the pan, spraying water over them both.

.

.

That sent baby chucker back to the shed….

.

.

And made the raccoon realize what the pan was for.

😉

  1. Had a raccoon walking on our fence last night. It wasn’t even that late. Did give me the stink eye, though. Guess I need to keep a baby woodchuck on my person at all times to be safe.

I wonder if they have baby woodchuck holsters. I’ll bet Temu or AliExpress carry them…

  2. I’ve got the bird version of this covered since i live on either a really small lake or a really big pond. Anyway, you want ducks and geese? Got ’em. You want cranes or the occasional eagle. Yep. Catch me on the right day and I can even do bullfrogs and turtles.

  3. Omg so adorable!!

Now I know why Tucker’s outdoor water dish is always empty in the morning, when I fill it in later afternoon and he rarely drinks from it at that time. Must be our little chucker who comes for a drink. 🙂
