Midnight… birds?

.

Our night time visitors include deer, fox, opossums, skunks and raccoons. I put out a bowl of water and critter specific food but they all nibble the bird seed that spills on the ground.

All of them except this fellow.

Who prefers his straight from the source.

You wouldn’t think his chunky little butt could shimmy up that pole, but he climbs it with ease.

Of course coming down isn’t quite as smooth.

🤣

.

Pardon the photo quality, I was taking pics through the window and the kitchen light was throwing reflections.

And why isn’t WP letting me embed videos anymore? That’s annoying.

  1. Haha. An enterprising raccoon. And I love all the creatures getting along below him (hope he didn’t hurt his back coming down!). We have lots of cute little chipmunks who sneak into our (tall) planters on the front porch and dig big holes (hiding stuff). We wake up in the morning with dirt scattered all over the porch. Funny!

  2. You need a stand you can mount the head of the hose to, a precision spray nozzle aimed just above the bird seed, and a remote trigger.

Bonus points: a camera and AI recognition software to trigger the hose automatically when a raccoon is seen…

      1. LOL! I even got a tap splitter, so the sprinkler could be hooked up and on while their hose was hooked up and used only at will.

If I knew where they put the sprinkler, I would consider setting it up! I can’t afford another one. I hope they gave it to someone (I didn’t think to ask)

I also gave the plastic spike pads, which they actually put out, but they weren’t very effective.

At some point, I’ll get my front yard rototilled, which the cats will treat as a giant litter box.

      2. LOL!! They’re good people! The fruit/veggie garden is ½ their front yard and open to everyone. Since they’re tolerant of cats, even though they drive their dogs nuts, I try to help!

  3. The video embed thing has been screwy for awhile. I often have to input vid links twice – the first defaults to a link; the second presents the popup asking if I want to embed or link. I embed, then take out the first one.

Is that raccoon face down when it’s going down the pole?!?

My family of raccoons went MIA – mom & 3 kids… I haven’t seen them in a week.

      1. They always arrive after dark and will only tolerate the light on for a short amount of time. Shooting video through the window at night is nearly impossible. But I try…
