.
I was checking my bank account on my phone recently when something forced me to do a double take.
Yes, I’d transferred $2K to savings.
Yes, I had an Amazon order for $123.
But then…
.

.
Holy guacamole Batman!
Where’d that large deposit come from?
.

.
We have an investment account but not with this institution.
Private banking? Huh.
Did my husband squirrel money away under the mattress and suddenly decided to deposit it?
Were the backyard critters suddenly paying for their buffet?
Did WordPress monetize my blog and not tell me?
I had no clue, and since it was 9:00 at night there was no one to call to find out.
But alas the next morning when I woke up and checked my account… it was gone.
Disappeared like it was never there.
Data input error I’m sure, but damn… that would have made a nice little windfall if I could have withdrawn it quick enough.
😉
.
You’d think someone would explain an error like that. They would have called if you had moved it to another account.

Sounds like a scam in the process but someone at your bank alerted fraud and they took care of it for you.

Fraud gives you money?
How bizarre…

No I’m saying someone in your bank account and deposited that large sum for nefarious reasons

So now you’ve become a money launderer, eh? If you had withdrawn those funds, someone may have visited you to break some fingers.

Good thing it disappeared quickly then.

This is why I’m on WordPress. I discover people (disgust, autocorrect, really??), harvest their bank account info, and then profit via obscure and obtuse banking procedures that start with large deposits to their accounts.
Sadly, you WILL incur tax liabilities.
But I won’t…

Oops. I once opened my bank account at 12 PM to pay for my railway tickets and found all my money gone. I and hubby felt earth melt beneath our feet. We called online help but got to no one. I assured hubby that local banks get websites maintained late at night so it won’t worry localities.
But I couldn’t sleep at night. All my life’s savings were in a single place which was now empty. Next morning at 7 am my account was restored but that experience had both of us thinking and we moved money to two different account and always keep some cash handy, just in case.

Yikes! That’s much worse than finding too much.

I have seen a couple of banking data errors, but geez, not to that extreme. I suspect if I did I would sleep on it and wait for it to “self-correct.” I would never bank on “winning” at banking.

No, but it was nice while it lasted.

Somebody laundering money is SOOOO lucky you couldn’t withdraw immediately. Probably you saved their life.
