.
It’s been squirrel central at Casa River lately.
Our beef feeder pole is out in the open, and with our resident hawk patrolling the skies we usually only have a single squirrel show up to nosh.
.

.
Seven is a record.
.

.
But after something scared the others away one brave little guy took advantage.
.

.
I know people hate squirrels because they eat the bird seed, but we’re equal opportunity feeders here and all critters are welcome.
.

.
I enjoy watching their gymnastic performances.
.

.
Rats with bushy tails?
.

.
Maybe.
.

.
But they’re still sweeties.
💕.
You know I support inviting everyone for a good meal. I love watching those little guys. Thanks for sharing the antics on display.

They eat a lot less than the pesky bluejays, so we don’t mind.

The blues jays eat most of our peanuts.

Oh wow. You do have a lot. Word is obviously spreading fast between them that food os on offer here and we are welcome. Now it is the squirrel olympics.

This was an anomaly, we usually have one or two. But winter is coming…

I agree. Squirrels are cute. We have a baffle on our feeder which keeps them off it. They find other things to eat.

I’ve yet to find a feeder they can’t circumvent if they really want to…

That’s great that you put that out for the squirrels. It must give you so much entertainment. I don’t encourage the squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits in my yard, but I don’t discourage them either. My indoor cat loves the show.

We put them out for the birds, but the squirrels, deer and raccoons always find them.

Well she/he is good at the squirrel gymnastics, and with that girth, she/he is a gold medal winner for sure 😆

Our squirrels have not only been totes adorbs this season, they have also somehow managed to avoid traffic throughout. The nuts are being gathered, replanted, dug up…they’re all over the place mentally and physically. They are fun to watch.

Sweet thieving bastards.
We now have two squirrels tag-teaming the crows and yoinking their peanuts.
And when we go into the backyard, one will come down from the tree and glare at us, demanding more peanuts with his eyes.
They’re like the mafia.
“It sure would be a shame if something happened to your beautiful house because you won’t give us your peanuts…”
Scratch the sweet.
Thieving bastards.

They’re not. When you lay out a buffet you can’t discriminate who comes to feed…

That is quite entertaining. I have a squirrel that frequently runs along the fence outside my window. No tricks, but I enjoy his/her fluffiness. Also, mine is light brown. Yours look gray. How interesting. I remember being on the campus of Kent State in Ohio and seeing black squirrels. Weirdest thing ever, at the time. (I’m sure I’ve seen weirder things since.)

Most of squirrels are gray though we do have those pesky little red ones as well. Never had a black squirrel, though I’d like to.

Where I grew up in Ohio the squirrels were gray, too. I’m not sure I realized the ones here are different until this post! Are these brown ones what you refer to as red squirrels? My eyes have been opened to the many varieties of squirrels. There’s also talk of “ground squirrels” out here. What the heck?

Red squirrels are much smaller than grays, and much more destructive. Ground squirrels are even smaller, more like chipmunks.

You are a squirrel aficionado!
P.S. I had no idea how to spell that word. Only got the last half right.

We have black, gray, and red squirrels, and once in a very long while we see a white one.

Wow! I’ve never seen white either…

That’s wild! Are they albino, sort of like the super rare albino bison?

They don’t have pink eyes, so not albino. I think they may be leucistic.

Squirrels are quite entertaining. We used to see them daily in our last house, eating flowers (I know, crazy!) and hanging upside down to eat seeds from the hanging pods.

Never seen one nibbling flowers before.

Yeah! It was a first for me too. But I also saw monkeys eating them. So I guess this variety is in demand.

That really is a chunker! And your squirrels seem to have more white in their fur than the specimens here, while also being either thicker or fluffier…

They’ll need that thick coat come winter. And a few extra pounds never hurts…
