It’s that time of year!

Temperatures have dropped and the ground is covered in snow.

The deer are back…

And they’re hungry.

Such beauties.

I guess you don’t have CWD (chronic wasting disease) in Maine. Here, it is illegal to feed deer, as congregating around feeding sites spreads the disease.

It’s not illegal here, though probably frowned upon. I buy special deer grain formulated for winter feeding, no corn. We’ve had a herd for 23 years running and they’re always healthy. I just put two dishes out for a nibble, a treat. They’re not surviving on it. They come in and raid our bird feeders anyway, might as well nosh on something better for them.

Hey! These guys will be an even better source of meat after the apocalypse than the woodchucks!

Don’t make me unfriend you…

Sure, go ahead and unfriend me. When the world ends and you’re freezing cold and starving, you’ll feel really bad for casting me off.
And I’ll be sitting pretty, nice and fat off a steady diet of woodchuck burgers and eating crow.
