It’s Friday.

I think it’s required.

It is said music hath charms to soothe the savage breast. No, it’s not beast, that’s a common misquote. But I think ole William Congreve knew what he was talking about in 1697.

(If you’re interested, the original line is as follows –

“Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast, To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak”)

And while music can indeed soothe it can also elicit other emotional responses… joy, sadness, nostalgia, triumph etc.

And when asked what songs move me? The first one that pops into my head is Eric Clapton’s “My Father’s Eyes” from this album.

I lost my dad when I was 15 years old and to be honest, I still haven’t gotten over it. To this day I can’t talk about him… or listen to that song… without crying.

So yes, music can bring me to tears.

  1. Snowbird by Anne Murray. It was my Mom’s favorite song and I have loved it since I was a kid. Love it even more after she passed in 2002. It reminds me of her 😇❤️‍🩹

  2. I’m not even trying to lie here. So many great songs have filled my heart with love and joy, anger, sadness and loss I could never narrow it down to one.
    That said, I will play nonetheless.

    In case no one gets the link, the song I’m offering is New horizons by the Moody Blues. The lyrics speak of love, hope and gratitude and the soaring harmonies speak volumes without words. It makes me feel.
    Riv, I’m sorry for your loss but I’m glad for the joy that still lives inside you.💕

  3. For me, the song from Tanya Tucker, Paul Davis and Paul Overstreet called I Won’t Take Less Than You Love. It came out in 1987, the year after my oldest son was born and it reminds me of my son as a baby.

  6. “Ten Years Gone” by Led Zeppelin. It’s haunting and beautiful, and reminds me of many moonlit drives on starry nights, when my life felt new and strange but full of possibility and promise.

    My song is You’re the Voice, by John Farnham. From my adolescent years. To me, the song is a rally cry to stand up for what’s right and make the world a better place. It’s filled with such hope.

  8. Farewell Angelina … which I posted about before … always reminds me of a close friend who died many years ago. But I’m a crier so that are many other songs. I’m sure your dad is still with you.
