.
Every once in a while we have a strange bird drop by the feeders.
.

.
We’re not near the beach, though our property does back up on a large river.
.

.
But this wayward traveler spotted the woodchuck buffet and decided to munch.
.

.
You really don’t want to encourage a seagull.
.

.
Before long one will become twelve and your backyard will resemble a landfill, with a dozen squawking birds fighting (and pooping) everywhere.
So after a few quick pics for blogging purposes, I went outside and shoo’d him off.
.

.
Or so I thought.
Because when I turned around to go inside…
.

.
He’d taken up a recon position.
.

.
Seagulls don’t play.
😳

LOLOL I didn’t know that about seagulls. I don’t remember ever seeing one here. Neat experience though

They drop by every once in a a while. But we don’t encourage it…

As much as I like every bird, I do agree with not encouraging the seagull. Because my experience when I was last down at a beach when it came to a seagull wasn’t a very good experience.

I had one steal a sandwich right out of my hand. They’re fearless.

Yes. I had the same experience. I hadn’t even managed to take a bite of my sandwich and the other went on the floor, along with my hot drink.

Mind you. I say as much as I like every bird. Maybe I ought to exclude the seagull. Because I am not a fan of them in the same way as I used to.

My wife was amazed to see a seagull when we moved here, 1000 miles from the nearest ocean, so I took her to the dump for birdwatching.
I discovered one more damaged item from our baseball-sized hail. The louvers at the end of the duct from our bathroom exhaust fan were damaged. A bird family moved in this weekend.

Ugh. We had that problem for years. Starlings nested in our vent no matter how many ways we tried to block it.

They don’t seem like they are wanted anywhere. Thank goodness I don’t live anywhere they would be. but I have so many blackbirds and pigeons. They are the bane of my existence, pigeons and seagulls, they are related I believe. In the “most annoying bird” category.

Seagulls are clever and can be quite comical. One, I wouldn’t mind.
I’ve seen pigeons in our town but for some reason they never show up here. I think I’m glad.

Seagulls are so aggressive. They can spot a bag of chips under a blanket, haul it out, rip it open, and demolish it in under a minute at any SoCal beach.

Same here. They’re voracious.

Have you been down in Laguna, where squirrels will steal stuff off your blanket? If you flick sand at them, they flick it back at you!!!

This does not surprise me LOL

True. I’ve never once seen a Moose, but many a gull has stolen my fries.

I once had a gull swipe an entire loaf of bread out of my grocery bag.

I love the photo of him on your roof. But I agree with you. You don’t want to encourage gulls. At the beach, they will rip into coolers or cloth bags hunting for food.

You can tell by looking at him… I didn’t scare him one bit.
🤣

Gulls don’t scare easy. What was all that Jonathan Livingston Seagull book and movie stuff when I was young? It was a nice story, but no gulls have a higher purpose or empathy for others in life. My husband calls them rats with wings.

They have their place, like every other creature. But hopefully it’s not our backyard..

We are not near the shore either, but there are lots of gulls around the river. Fortunately, they haven’t migrated up here. Although, I have seen them outside the fast food places near the airport.

Great. Now they’ll all have heart disease and diabetes…

Swans aren’t friendly either, despite their regal beauty. I was just hissed at by one the other day.

Swans can be quite dangerous when threatened. Elegant, but fierce.

As much as I love birds, I could do without gulls and pigeons. I’ll stick with cardinals, blue jays, orioles, and (dare to dream!) owls.

We’ve been here for 23 years and have seen 4 owls.
They’re so beautiful I wish they’d visit more often.
